No, the Invocation bonus of the initial manifestation would not hold through for the purpose of sustaining a power. Ones GM may allow for you to test Invocation again when it is time to make your sustaining roll, but nothing in the rules state this either way. Remember, Invocation tests are a full-round action, so you would have to check the round prior to making the sustaining roll.

Technically, yes. The only detriment to a failed Invocation test is (possibly) looking foolish to those unfamiliar with what you're doing, and losing an entire round to the attempt. All it costs is time.

Technically, yes. However, you would NOT be able to do anything else during any round you tested, as using the skill is a full-round action. Except, maybe, issue a warning to your colleagues should something be amiss.

No. However, since sustaining a power never runs the risk of manifestations, you can usually go all-out on the power dice which should be enough on its own.

Yes.

As it's a perception roll, I'd consider letting the GM roll it and just tell him how often I want it rolled. After all, there's no difference for the character between a failed roll and a roll where there's just nothing to detect as both come up blank (but hopefully not Blank *g*).
