First Dash build??? Updated

By drail14me, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm new to the game and looking at playing my first large based ship, Dash. I'm playing in a league and this next match allows large based ships. We've done a pilot draft and I have Dash, Garven Dreis and Nera Dantels.

In this next match, I'll be facing Wedge, Miranda and Rey. Wondering what my best Dash build with 54 points would be.

Looking at Dash + VI + HLC + Outrider + Jyn Erso + Experimental Interface but also thinking of the typical super Dash build using Dash + PTL + HLC + Outrider + Kyle Katarn.

Which would be best or what would be better facing Wedge + R2D2 + PTL + Shield Upgrade, Miranda + TLT + Recon Specialist + Stealth Device, and Rey + Finn + Kanan + Sloop title + EU?

Thanks for any help.

More detailed situation

HLC on Dash is absolutely worth the points. If you are trying to save points, or if you're concerned about the HLC donut, then use Mangler Cannon instead.

Think of it this way: the Jumpmaster pays 12 points to go from two to three attack dice. Paying 12 to go from two to four is a bargain, even if you do lose range 1 coverage. :) (Especially since your opponents don't get range bonuses!) Mangler is arguably better in a few situations (by which I mean, against a Ghost or Decimator) but 95% of the time, the ability to just punch damage through is more important than consistent crit output.

Mangler is good in way more situations than a couple beefy matchups. The option to attack at range 1 opens up Dash's maneuvering and action options. Changing a hit to a crit is just a perk. Saving 3 points also gives more options to Dash's wingman.

HLC tends to do more damage than Mangler; enough to justify 3 more points and the loss of Range 1 attacks. Just be aware that giving up range 1 will frequently determine Dash's maneuvering and actions.

Thanks for the input! I'm playing in a league and we're about to do another pilot draft. I'm hoping to get Dash but I draft 2nd to last. My chances are slim since I pick after three other Rebel players.

If I get him, I'll be facing Poe and Shara Bey or Wedge and Miranda plus whoever they draft and the 200 point squad they build with them. I'll need those four 180 degree attack dice!

This is true, but if you're running a cannon range three is always optimal anyway. Mangler gives you the option of being at range one, but almost always you'd prefer to be at range three, so in my experience you wouldn't actually play it that differently. (Obviously if you're flying against a PS8+ arc dodger, being able to shoot at range one becomes more important.)

I've edited the original post based on more details about my situation. Any advice is appreciated.

My favourite Dash build is:

Outrider

Push the Limit

Mangler Cannon

Kanan Jarrus

Engine Upgrade

For 55 points

This makes him very maneurable and he shakes off the stress caused by PTL every round

I would prefere HLC on Dash. 4 attack dice 360 allround is great. There is alot of good Dash builds. Here are some

Dash, PTL, Kyle Katarn, title, HLC, EU (58)

Dash, PTL, Kanan Jarrus, title, HLC, EU (58)

and my favorite

Dash, Lone Wolf, Ray, title, HLC (52)

I play this with one of these

Corran Horn, PTL, FCS, R2-D2, EU (48)

or

Miranda Doni, TLT, Sabine Wren, EM, Cluster Mines, Thermal Detonators, Advanced Slam (48)

or

4 Z-95 Bandits (48)

The "best" Dash imho is HLC, Outrider, Lone Wolf, Rey. I've played a lot of Dash and I think it's a more effective ship than the PTL/Kanan version, which comes in at 54 pts. LW/Rey version is 52 points so you have 2 more points for a Mod/Illicit (with Snuggling Compartment). Rigged Cargo Chute can be fun (and is another obstacle Dash can ignore) and offers some protection against ships trying to get into your donut from behind. That leaves 1 for Tac Jammer which isn't great but if you have a spare point, why not?

It is actually much cheaper than that.
The PTL/kanan version also includes engine upgrade, so you save 6 points for alternative mods and better co-pilots!

Furthermore lone wolf gives defensive rerolls, which is even better these days.

Btw; Why does your mate use stealth device on miranda??? :P (to OP)
