Hawktel lets down the Daqan in Utah.

By Hawktel, in Runewars Miniatures Game

So I’ve been playing this game for a bit and I thought I’d add in a few thoughts about the last game I played.

I played the even SirDrasco, who was in command of the hordes of undead.

His force, from memory:

Ankaur Maro with Heartseeker

Ardus with a Shield of Margath

A squad of 4 tray archers.

9 tray squad of reanimates with a fallen hero and a Raven Standard bearer.

My force was Lord Hawthorne with a shield of Margath, and Might of the Daqan

2x Separate Rune Golems.

4 Tray Oathsworn with Rank Discipline.

4 Tray spearmen with a Artifact Bearer, Fortunas dice, and Fire Rune.

4 Tray spearmen with a Grey Channeler.

199 points.

We ended up playing the mission where if you hit a side of a unit or a character, gain a 20 point objective, and the deployment where you set up in the corners and play across the table in a diagonal.

We played with a small mountain that had no bearing in the game, a graveyard (Ankaur Maro’s terrain add) and the elevated ruins. The elevated Ruins went center of the table.

I deployed the Daqan in a compact formation and immediately dumped out the AOE of everyone getting an inspiration token. I then deployed the Horse down the baseline of the table while the Spearmen wheeled to push along his board edge to his force, and the Golems moved to the center of the table. The forces of Evil SirDraco showed the Ardus move to face down both units of spearmen alone, his Big block of reanimates slowly started to the horse at low speed, and gained another tray of warriors from Maro, while the Archers took the elevated ruins in the middle.

The next turns grouped together to have the spearmen move up, and fire run Ardus causing some wounds, and lord Hawthorne finished his by moving in with a few hits. Ardus was already down wounds, when Lord Hawthorne hit him with sword for another. Ardus moved to face my Hero then died off my defense 5 as the shield procced.

The Oathsworn got an amazing charge in killing 20! Reanimates. By the time they got in the charge in, the unit was at 12 trays, 3 wide 4 deep. Removing 5 trays was enjoyable.

The Rune Golems moved up and killed 3 trays of the Archers, and moved into the Elevated Terrain. Maro promptly gunned them down, killing the first with 4 hits and a dial mortal strike, and killed the other over the next 2 turns.

The game ended on turn 8 as the Fire rune spearmen moved onto the elevated terrain and killed the last 3 man stand of the archers, the Horse with 1.5 trays left had killed the Reanimates to down to 3and 3.4ths trays.

The game ended 187 to 112 Daqan favor. I received 2x 20 point tokens, and he received 1x 20 point token.

I learned…

Spearmen with the fire run is amazingly fun. And really good.

Oathsworn 4 wide with Rank discipline are amazing at killing lots of things quickly.

Rune golems should be left in the box. Lord Hawthorne is stupid good. Just Stupid good. He doesn’t hit like a truck, but he seems to have a answer to many questions.

I’m ready for some Heavy Crossbowmen FFG.

How did you let us down if you won? :)

Well not this game. I'm sure I'll get some other games in and report them.

Ah, I see. You're going to build us up first, so you can let us down even harder in the future.

That's fine, the Baronies have been on a streak of disappointment ever since Daqan disappeared.

Ankaur was beast, he stacked up trays on the Reanimates. When the Calvary did 20 damage, or 5 trays on the initial charge, and that still left 7 tray as Ankaur had added 3 from the previous turns.

Hawktel and I are the only players at ur game shop, Endzone in Clearfield Ut, at the moment and we've have not been playing the same lists twice. We're trying different formations, card combos, and deployment/missions to get a feel for everything.

It's been a blast playing Hawktel and trying different things. I'm going to see about being the TO for our store and hopefully kick off about the middle of August .

We play Armada also so I enjoy the change up and the genre and look forward to playing more Runewars.
