New Beginner

By PilotinControl, in Star Wars: Destiny

Hello Everyone,

I am thinking about diving into Destiny as I already play X-Wing my question is how many booster packs do you need for each faction. In other words FFG webpage doesn't specify how many booster packs you need all it says is 160 cards. I will get both core sets to begin. Just need some clarification. Thanks!

My advice is buy both Starter sets and then at least 6 boosters. This will give you enough cards to build your first deck. Want two decks, then buy 12 boosters at minimum.

Others here might tell you to spend more money. Honestly... see if you like the game first. JUST the two starters makes for a great casual game between two people.

I totally agree with Stone!

The starters are awesome! They come with some of the best cards in the game, actually! Rey, Force Throw, Mind Probe, even Kylo is still present in a number of tourney-winning decks!

I got the starters and 6 packs when I started, and that was enough for me to play a decent villain deck. Due to random luck, I didn't draw enough hero characters, by with both starters and 6 packs you're pretty much guaranteed to have at least one legal deck that has 30 cards and close to 30 character points.

On a side note, about your thread title, it made me think about what the difference is between a new beginner and some other kind of beginner... Since you play X-Wing, I'd say you're actually not a new beginner, but a somewhat-experienced beginner! Gameplay and deckbuilding in this game is arguably easier than X-Wing, so I think if you play it a couple times you'll pick it up rather easily! :)

Ok thanks to both of you! I will get both starter decks and a few boosters. Yes I am new to Destiny and X-wing I try to play every weekend and I go to a local store which has casual play and tournaments. I am currently in the top four and we have our last match up this Sunday to determine who will be first place.

The starters have some very usable cards to get you started. I would get the 2 different starters and try and get a hold of about 12 awakenings boosters.

While I've followed Destiny since it was first announced; I only played my first live game today.

1 of each starter gave a nice casual game. You could even make a legal hero deck for tournaments but it would only be OK. I'm already trying to figure out my booster purchase plan, like you. The advice others have given feels right to me and my wallet.

My opening buy was 15 boosters, then both starters. It can give you 2 playable decks. By meaning playable i mean ones that at least make sense - but that is pure luck. Then you gonna buy more and more anyway :D
