Your Favorite Star Wars Video Game Story

By KungFuFerret, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

So this might be a stretch, but I'm guessing a few people on this forum have played a Star Wars video game or 2. Some games were good, some were great...some where not. But I'm sure we all have a handful of stories that made us love those games. So here's a thread for you to share you gaming stories! Video game stories that is.

So, for me, both are from the same game Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.

I'm running around as Kyle, and I'm fighting storm troopers left and right. Not thinking about it, just moving them down, because they are canon fodder at this point. I'm jumping around some platforms, and yoink a few troopers at me in the process, to make them fall in a pit (stupid railing safety regulations!). I think they're all dead, but notice that one of them, had just enough trajectory to end up on the ledge below me. He no longer has a gun, and really has nowhere to go (can't get off that spot without Force Jump, so he's hosed). So I decide to have fun with him. I try and Pull him up onto the ledge with me, but it doesn't work, too high. Still, he flies up in the air a bit, and then falls back down with an "oomph!" I decide to repeat the process....again...and again....and again.. "Ommph!" *thud* "Oomph!" *thud* "Ack!" *thud* "Blargh!" *dies* I slowly beat him to death with gravity, by making him fall over and over, taking a teeny bit of damage each time. It was most amusing.

And my favorite, my absolute favorite of that game, my first time playing, and I'm at the final boss. I'm walking along that ledge above him, and we are giving our opening monologues of "I'm so going to kick your butt". And then, combat starts!!

I think this is going to be an epic battle for the ages, so I switch to heavy stance, and pop Force Speed, then go leaping down off my ledge at my foe, to do battle for the first time, for the last time!! ......I run in, he swings his saber, I click the mouse, it counters, shift to the left a few steps, swing again....and kill him in one sweep of the blade. Roll end cutscene.

Me: *blink blink* *watches screen, certain there will be a "Hah! You thought I was dead!" moment* *....moment never comes* "WTF?!"

On one hand, it was a great sort of Iaijutsu duel, with it coming down to a single strike, but on the other hand, come on!! One hit?!?! :D

I reloaded the game, thinking it was a fluke...and it was, I was never able to recreate that first encounter again, which is kind of a neat thing about that combat system, given how unscripted it could be. It was still an amusing moment that just stuck with me for years.

SO what about you? What moments did you have with SW video games, either funny bugs, or awesome moments where everything fell together perfectly, or just pure silliness?

Have to go with the first KOTOR game myself. Captured a lot of the feel of the original movies, and while Bastilla could be a bit preachy the rest of the NPC cast was generally solid, with Mission Vao, Jolee Bindo, and HK-47 being personal favorites. Yeah, the big twist could be spotted pretty early on if you paid attention, but I still think they did a good job with the plot.

Plus, Taris as a setting was pretty cool, and I've used that location more than a few times in my campaigns, including ones set thousands of years after the events of the game, with Taris never having fully recovered the glory of it's bygone days.

I'll agree with Dono and KOTOR is my absolute favorite.

The Force Unleashed gets a lot of grief, but I really like that game. I really enjoyed the story.

I have nothing but good things to say about the first FU game, except for the rocket troopers, EFF those guys! The novelization of FU 1 was an enjoyable read as well.

But I'm curious if you had any memorable experiences with the games, not just "I liked this one a lot" :D

Oh man, Jedi Academy. All day. Literally,

No specific story, but just the Lightsaber combat/battles/duels.

OMG... Best that any game has ever done capturing it. Crimeny what a great game.

The concept behind Force Unleashed was good, with the crux of it ultimately being a revenge story for the protagonist for being manipulated all his life while he comes to grips with just what sort of person he wants to be was interesting. Only downside was that they made him into the Gump and had Starkiller be a major factor in the formation of the Alliance, which in turn lead me to not to consider the game as "canon" with regards to any campaigns I was running.

Although to be fair, if it weren't for the sort of antics we saw Starkiller get up to in TFU, I probably never would have had my "teenage telekinetic wrecking ball" in a Legacy Era SW Saga Edition game. Dear lord, the stuff the GM let me get away with in that game, all because I bought the Unleashed feat several months before anybody really knew what it did.

I would have to say, playing KotOR is a blast. One of my favorite things in the game is flirting with Bastilla and watching her get flustered as easily as she does. It's hilarious.

My first time playing KOTOR (which I will add to the crowd of endorsements of) I didn't have any force powers that could break the jedi out of the stasis thing so I had to go full war of attrition with the final boss (he heals to full 8 times IIRC).

Two stories from SWTOR (which I actually loved some of the stories in (Imperial Agent in particular)):

In the romance track for Kaliyo she brings a guy onto your ship to sleep with; due to incredible coincidence in the character creator the guy she bought had the same facial structure and hair as my character but had stubble. It reminded me of that trope where a character is claiming to be over their ex and has a new significant other only for the new significant other to look so similar that it seems that they were looking for a replacement.

I put the effort in to earn the achievement for seeing all the interactions in the Makeb weekly campaign. Among other things this needed me to do a specific mission in order to unlock a heroic 4 mission and then complete that mission (finding a group to do this would have been extremely difficult). It might not have happened exactly like that but the point was that I needed to solo a heroic 4 mission of my level, that is to say beat multiple encounters against multiple elite and champion enemies (even a single champion enemy is generally meant to be taken on by a group). I eventually manged it through a lot of hit and run tactics and stealth cheese and felt badass.

I think I enjoyed KotOR II's storymore than the first game, despite being buggy and the ending was all mangled due to being rushed to production. The first was good, but I really like the second.

Select campaigns from The Old Republic are really good. In particular, I like the story of the light side Imperial Agent (Cipher Nine is an awesome character in general). I also like the light side Sith Inquisitor.

It may be pretty simplistic (and non-canon even by Legends terms), but the campaign story for Battlefront 2 was neat. It kind of gave a first-person portrayal of the faceless Clones and Stormtroopers from the movies, which was nice.

Enjoyed a lot, but my favourite moment, having played as a tank in many MMOs, was the first time I hit what felt like that normal scripted raid encounter where the big boss goes out of range whilst something else takes place, but in this case I force leaped after it !

Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight and Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight - Mysteries of the Sith. The later mainly, because the end was told by player actions. The story itself ain't that amazing, but this final solution to the game was just awesome and memorable and sometimes the medium makes all the difference for a story.

I haven't completed the first KOTOR yet, got to deck 2 star forge. ??????
