Bit sad bout that. They were SO fun to conner
Brobots
Palp Aces was a skill (and, sure, luck) matchup for Aggressors. Tilted a bit in the Imperials' favor, but nothing crazy. Whisper and Omega were both terrifying, sure...but they were also both terrified. Soontir was frustrating, but his offense was low enough to permit you to nuke his wingman (probably Inquisitor), clean up the shuttle, and hopefully have enough left in the tank to dice your way through his bull.
Wave 8 and onward was what clobbered Aggressors. Massive alpha strikes that were in fact better than glittercrack HLCs on the joust. Sure, if the scouts lined up and very politely gave you a range 3 joust you had decent odds of taking no damage in the entire first salvo and thereby all but guaranteeing Boba would die unused. If they didn't (and between three banks and large base barrel roll they sure didn't need to) things got real interesting. Bossk with homing and crackshot. Dengaroo. And then the Shadowcaster and Fang show up and you're super duper extra boned.
Power creep in general has slowly pushed them down since release, but scum alpha lists in particular have completely wiped them off the face of the Earth. There is a reasonable chance that you lose half of your list before you get to shoot. Ketsu Bossk is especially nasty against Brobots!
This is a bitter-sweet thread for me. I was playing one night and a buddy who flew Brobots all the time nudged me and showed me where CSI or MM had Bros on sale for like half. So, like any other solid X-Wing addict, I quickly nabbed two. I haven't flown them once as I intended and over a year has flown by; I want to mind you, but alas, I haven't.
Now, in my games I seem to either be trying to tread water in the deep end (bringing what I love to get it's brains beaten in most of the time), or playing the OP hotness to win pretty consistently (RauBoats and I'm flirting with ODJ) but feel kinda bad about breathing the same air as those not playing OP (Jumps, Attani, Biggs, Slam-Sabine....which is everywhere)
I think I might break them out and fly around the board a bit, get use to the dial and maybe take 'em just to be weird and nostalgic.
Beer....I'll need beer too ?
Actually I forgot one other thing that hit them a fair bit in competitive settings: the half points for half health big base change. In my experience it's actually fairly rare not to lose half your health on a bot (it's only 4 points after all), and so you tend to leak MOV in every game even if you end up winning.
Conversely a loaded Miranda costing about the same is worth full points at the end of the game. Definitely a rule I think needs a bit of revisit at this point, although I think it more needs a more consistent application (rather than "big vs. small base" which means less than it once did) rather than to be entirely changed or something.
Won a store champs with Brobots. No FCS, no Crack, no Mangler, no HLC. They're just fine.
Edited by jesper_hMain reason? Brobots are very vulnerable to bad luck, and things that pushed them out aren't. Most high agi ships don't actually rely on greens all that much- they arc-dodge to avoid most shots and only rarely have to roll. And green dice are fickle; as long as they stay average you're pretty good, but it's simply not very likely for them to stay that way throught the whole tournament.
P.S. Also, they bleed MoV like crazy. Most of the time when they win they lose one ship and the other one is halved.
