Rounding Out My Inventory

By FluxCapcitr, in X-Wing

I've played this game for a bit and love it, but the past year and a half, I've barely played it at all and haven't bought any new ships. I've realized that moving forward, I just don't have the time and resources to keep up with it. That being said, I plan to hold on to my collection so that many years in the future, I can still play casually with friends and family. Most of my games will probably require both players to use only my collection, so I want to round out my inventory with whatever I need to try to make it balanced (while realizing that perfect balance is impossible).

For example, when I dropped out, unhittable and/or regenning aces were dominating. Any expansions or cards that counter them or bring them into balance would be beneficial. Any fixes for otherwise useless ships are also of interest. I'm not really looking for any new fancy features or abilities unless they correct a previous deficiency in the game.

Please let me know your recommendations on any final purchases I should make.

My Current Collection: I have two of the original core sets, one of the Force Awakens core set, and at least one of everything up through wave 7, plus the T-70 and TIE FO expansions. I also have the transport, corvette, and raider.

Gozanti so you can balance the epic ships :-P

Are your 1-7 including scum? Or only rebel/imp?

If scum IS included, pick up a Protectorate fighter and a shadowcaster minimum. At the very least, wait for guns for hire to come out so your viper and Kirhaxz are "fixed". I'd say a Jumpmaster but then I'll get shown the nearest airlock.

If scum was NOT included, then maybe just HotR, Upsilon, and Tie SF. Maybe the striker because it's fun and relatively self contained in its own expansion.

Honestly, you're in a pretty good place already. You might consider grabbing the Gozanti, Ghost, Mist Hunter, Inquisitor's TIE, Imperial Veterans, and Heroes of the Resistance, as those are all solid, well-balanced expansion packs. Particularly, the addition of Sabine from the Ghost makes bombs a viable squad archetype, which hard counters unhittable aces. Guidance Chips and Thread Tracers in the Inquisitor's TIE make ordnance alpha strikes a possibility, which counters regen. Imperial Vets fixes the TIE Defender and TIE Bomber. And Heroes of the Resistance adds some great stuff for the T-70s you already have. The Mist Hunter is just an all-around decent expansion which you might as well get to give Scum something. Gozanti fixes Epic ships with its 3 new modifications for Huge ships only.

Skip the Punishing One expansion for sure. If you want to give Scum a new ace to play with, skip ahead to the Protectorate Starfighter. Guns for Hire is also coming out later this year to fix the Kihraxz and StarViper.

Waves 9 and 10 don't contain any significant fixes for earlier ships. Vectored Thrusters is the only card from those waves I'd say you should really track down a few copies of.

I'll grab the Gozanti. What about the C-ROC? Is there anything in there worth having? I'm not terribly interested in using the ship itself for epic, but are there cards that boost other ships or epic play in general?

It has new pilots and upgrades for the M3A Scyk, including a copy of Heavy Scyk with the +1 hull errata included on it, so if the underpoweredness of the old Scyk bothers you, it might be worth getting for that alone. It also comes with a few other potentially interesting cards for epic, particularly Jabba the Hutt (acts like Extra Munitions for all Illicit upgrades in your entire squad) and Supercharged Power Cells (one-time-use Cargo upgrade that you discard to add 2 red dice to a single attack, as a sort of alpha strike option for Huge ships).

If you have a Force Awakens Core and T-70 expansion, pick up Heroes of the Resistance -- 'cause 3 T-70 lists are awesome and the Death Rey Falcon is wicked fun.
