Scratch-Built Debris Fields!

By Pewpewpew BOOM, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

Hello,

I am in the final stages with these pieces, but I am so pleased with them that I wanted to post now rather than wait until they are spray coated (I did not mask the rods when I primered so I'm cleaning them now).

No XWM model was harmed in their creation! I used Instant Mold (by CMON) to take molds from an A-Wing, Y-Wing, and YT-1300, then cast these in 2-part epoxy putty. These were augmented by random chopped up model bits.

They are 3 fields; pics are front/back. Each is mounted on fender washers and are fairly light as the YT parts are hollow. I made them to sit atop the FFG templates.

Poor lighting makes them look a bit darker than real life.

They look great, but you are going to want to mount them onto bases that are the same size as the actual templates to be valid.

Good work though !

I just sit the washer base on top of the FFG cardboard like a decoration that you pick up and move upon fly-overs. I've done the same for rocks.

While I believe they are technically not legal, I can't imagine someone making a stink about it since the FFG cardboard is what is on the table.

They'd be in a major grey area; third party asteroid templates are not legal, but you'd not be using those.

You'd still need to get tournament opponents' permission, but I doubt many people would care that much as long as you're willing to shift them if they're getting in the way of sight lines etc.

I use the same method for my homemade astroid decorations. It works fine and looks great. Excellent debris bricabrac

I have some lava rock asteroids that i made for SFB about twenty years ago that I set on the asteroid tokens. They work just fine, and as the local TO for the FLGS I can't see why they couldn't be used in a tournament.

Although no one has ever tried to use something like that as fare as I can remember.

Really nice items. They really look like space debris, not just a broken ship on a rock. The envy is strong with me.

They look great! Nice execution!
