Captain Kylo

I mentioned this list a ways back in someone else's post but since then have flown a couple times and have to put it out there: this list is A) One of the funnest lists I've ever flown. and B) Good enough to win LGS Tournaments. To be clear it's not going to beat the Scum Meta, don't fly it at your LGS champs. However this list has now beat every rebel list its faced to include dash/miranda. It has beat a Decimator/QD list (which is my LGS champs main). And it's beat all humdrum 3 ship imp lists its faced. So I ask you, for your input on potential improvements and your feedback after flying it on the enjoyment :)

Kylo Ren(50) [Kylo Ren(34), Recon Specialist(3), Experimental Interface(3), Fleet Officer(3), Calculation(1), Weapons Guidance(2), Collision Detector(0), Sensor Cluster(2), Kylo Ren's Shuttle(2)]

Captain Oicunn(50) [Captain Oicunn(42), Determination(1), Rebel Captive(3), Tactical Jammers(1), Systems Officer(2), Inspiring Recruit(1)]

Main idea is to run Oicunn in front of the shuttle and allow the shuttle to spam the focus. Systems officer for the times that Oicunn AND Kylo are bumped butt to nose, which will and probably should happen ijn this list.

How are you planning to clear the double stress from Kylo every round?

You're spending a LOT of points to get focus tokens for things you're spending a LOT of points to use, when the likes of Fire Control System, Operations Specialist, and Gunner would accomplish similar things for less cost and less chance of going wrong.

Ah yeah, spotted it now.

I'd still think that you're spending a lot of points to gain and spend focus tokens, where you could spend less points to get better mods from other sources more reliably.

Yes it is a lot of points. 3 focus tokens, a TL, calculation, and weapons guidance means I'm reliably hitting really hard while he is alive. Others mod could be cheaper but I don't know that any other setup is as guaranteed to land dmg.

You're spending 15 points to get that though 3 for RecSpec, 3 for Fleet Officer, 3 for XI, 2 for WG, 2 for Systems Officer, 1 for Calculation, 1 for Recruit (and another 2 for Cluster). For the same cost you could get Operations Specialist on one of them, Firce Control System on Kylo and Gunner on both and hit a LOT harder without the need to be stuck so closely together AND without the need for any actions at all to trigger it. Gunner is huge for two ship lists, because of the need to strip tokens from tanked targets in order to take them down. There's every chance both of these ships shoot at E.g. a Stealth Device x7 Defender, or Fenn at range 1, and do absolutely nothing. For round after round after round.

  • Kylo Ren - A Score To Settle, Reinforced Deflectors, Emperor Palpatine, Kylo Ren's Shuttle (47)
  • Captain Oicunn - Daredevil, Intelligence Agent, Boshek, Rebel Captive, Ion Projector (53)

You've got the old Ion Projector/Palpatine trap split over the two ships, but you've also got Kylo Ren's shuttle and the Ion Projector about to combine to stress/Ion something. The Coordinate action can be used with Daredevil to ram people for a second damage, or to give Oicunn dice mods.

Also Boshek for lols.

I'd swap in Dauntless and Inspiring Recruit over Rebel Captive to get Oicunn actions rather than using co-ordinate (and ideally you do want to afford Engine Upgrade to stop him self-immolating), but can confirm this combo of ships to be hella fun. Bumpercar Oicunn is great.

for your consideration I've flown Kylo with Rage and Baffles for a nasty couple of rounds of damage (you can even stop and rage if needed) and while not ideal (dies faster) it kinda works and it's much cheaper.

Rage recruit is better than rage baffles.

and more predictable. I like options and baffles helps turn around with actions. Not sayin you are wrong, just sharing my reasons.

Can you explain your approach more. How do you deal with the double stress without a Recruit? What is the rest of the build? Desperate to find a Kylo build I love!

It's not a top list but take both named SF pilots and joust. Kylo takes a TL at R3 coming from a side and then closes at R1 and Rage. Remove both stress tokens if positioning will require a white or red move next turn. Your 'beta' strike will be epic as both SF will most likely have F + TL and so will Kylo. Thats bad news for rebels (low PS and AGI). If they go after Kylo both SF can deal that PS0 crit that hurts imperial aces/mirror matches (2SF+ 1).

I'm sure there are better ways to do this such as recruit mentioned above and more silly like Kylo + Whisper + Epsilon leader (next one to try).

Baffle means he's not double stressed

Sure but he still can't turn and take actions the next turn (or 2 if you've stopped and raged). If I was going to take rage and baffles I'd also take inspiring recruit.
