Types of Books After Career Books

By Darth Poopdeck, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'm not familiar with other Fantasy Flight RPGs. When all career books are released, what type of books do they release in other Fantasy Flight lines? They can only squeeze the source books for many sectors. They can always release more adventures, but historically have they ever released new types of books?

The only other FFG stuff I'm particularly familiar with is Dark Heresy and the related systems, and there's honestly not a lot of similarity between how they released books and how Star Wars is doing it.

I have wondered this myself a few times. I suspect they will have to go with either "new-new career/specialization" books, or more sector-sourcebooks. I don't know if I see them releasing "...of the Galaxy" type compendiums or books dedicated to (say) just ships or weapons.

I'm not sure what their official policy is. They don't seem to have many other active RPG's. I know what I personally hope for is more location/settings books, and perhaps some consolidated equipment/resource type books. I'm getting tired of playing the "which of these 10 books was that one blaster I liked in" game. I'd love to see a consolidated equipment book, species book, vehicle book, etc.

I don't expect FFG to print a compilation book so everytime I get a new book, I input the species, gear, and a few other bits of data, into a spreadsheet. It takes me about an hour per book (I'm work at a leisurely pace).

It's not all that much work and the benefit is nice.

I might have an idea or two..............or not...........maybe.........maybe not.............

I drink and I know things......

I suspect that now that the career books are out, they'll probably scale back to one or two EotE releases per year, with those either being adventure books or setting books. Personally, I'd kind of prefer setting books as I tend not to make much use out of pre-written adventures; I've bought all the ones published to date and only one that I've used in any form is Beyond the Rim (tweaked a bit to fit my FaD campaign), and that was last year before the game went on hiatus so that we could play Curse of Strahd.

Beyond the Rim is probably my favourite adventure book, Im playing through it now with my second group

who are in a section that is being added on for this groups play through because they ran off from the village with everyone in tow in the middle of the night and are now going through a Predator esque style romp through the terrain heading back to their ship with imperials also running around looking for them on speeder bikes, probes, and nexu and arboreal octopus abounding to slowly kill off the villagers (and imps)

I would expect:

Setting books. There are lots of localized settings that could support books.

Movie-based expansions. (we've seen one..)

Special topics books.

Perhaps a functioning trade system... (There's a skeleton for sure between the Smuggler book and the core rules..)

Possibly collations and a revision into Player's & GM's books.

I want a book of modular encounters, preferably one for each line.

More sector books, although they sell slowly.

I would find some kind of book focused on a Galactic Power interesting, perhaps with a new Universal Spec for PC's. Something like Corporate Sector, Sith, Black Sun etc.

Reprints of existing books, of course. Sort of like today, when they have 8 RPG reprints listed in upcoming and only two new books (AOR Fully Operational in development and F&F Ghosts of Dathomir on the boat).

Would love:

Setting Books (Places, Governments, organizations, Imperial etc)

More Adversary decks (Jawas anyone?)

Era books (clone wars, ToR etc)

Adventure/Campaign books

Dumb question but how do Adversary Decls work?

have wondered if they would do "era" books, particularly given how adept FFG have been at side-stepping the prequels.

The Adversary decks are card decks that contain NPCs with all their stats and equipment. Its basically all the printed NPCs from all the Core Rulebooks in playing card format. The GM can pull out the ones he/she needs for the adventure and have them handy. https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/star-wars-roleplaying-accessories/products/scum-and-villainy/

Thank you - next dumb question, is that similar to how the specialization decks are used too?

The decks provide the talents on the cards. Some players prefer to have the full text in front of them at the table...

Someone posted AGES ago how to use the Adversary decks to create an adventure by laying out the cards in a pyramid with the card at the top being the BBEG. I also did a 5x5 square to create a 'web of favours owed or owing/allies/enemies/contacts/gossip' etc With the card at the centre the BBEG or owner of a McGuffin
