Monks of the Mountain
Jesus, Yokuni.
Monks?
Initial takeaways:
- Duelist isn't everywhere, but we have our first "kill duel".
- Dragon is gonna make Cloud the Mind hard to use.
- Gesu Cristo, please don't fight me Yokuni.
That holding just seemed to confirm multiplayer. Says "each opponent".
EDIT:That or they are just opening up the possibility in the future. ?

That and I wish we got better pictures for Doomed Shugenja and Mirumoto Prodigy :/
Yokuni looks like a beast! And his ability looks really interesting too. All that fate manipulation seems like it won't be fun to play against!
So do characters played as attachments provide any stat bonuses? Or just the ability within the quotes?
omg Yokuni - I'm glad to see he isn't similar to Totori / Hotaru ability with claiming rings. His ability is amazing!
Way of the Dragon - amirite?

It seems to me that they give the ability -only- if you play them as an attachment... but that makes them very expensive... We'll have to see if there is clarification afterwords.
Am I right in assuming that characters that are used as attachments add their military skill directly to the attached person's skill?
Glad to hear that we start the game with 4 cards in hand; makes me a little less concerned about bidding for card draw.
Hm, I got the impression that their stats would be added as bonuses.

Right, I understand that they don't give the ability unless they are an attachment (and even at 3-fate, Kazue's attachment ability is super good), and my gut is that they don't add their stats once they become an attachment, but I'm hoping they clarify that on Friday.
I have a feeling Scorpion are going to want to utilize Dragon. Togashi Kazue is practically poison in their hands... I expect Scorpion will play with dishonor, removing fate, and covert as well. They may get a better option and not need it, but stealing / removing fate like that is going to be powerful...
The fact that 11 starting honor is the average value for the clans is mildly disappointing. I was hoping for a little more of an advantage for crane and lion. Lion in particular might need a larger gap to use various abilities.
Can't wait to lunch to actually read all these cards.
Kitsuki CSI is so flavorful, good job ffg.

Lion shouldn't start with enough honor advantage to unlock their super power tho... Also 0 is the honor loss point so any less than 10 is playing with fire... We haven't seen what Scorpion can do yet...
I really like the design direction of the clan. Very interesting. They definitely seem to be all-in on building voltron, and then gaining an advantage through readying effects and their holding.
I'm a little concerned at a possible split in focus. While the overall focus is attachments, the individual cards have trait requirements so in the early days of the game they may run into situations where they have mismatched cards. Similarly, Yokuni is a powerful card that is hurt a bit by the voltron focus reducing the available targets. They have several effects that discard fate from the opponent's characters, but they also increase the fate available to the opponent with all of the spend to an unclaimed ring costs.
Definitely less straightforward than the other two clans. I think it may take a while for the Dragon to get figured out or get a properly focused card pool.
So we get followers....
Anyone else just chuckle over the Dragon's attachment to......attachments? ![]()

His ability says it can only be used once per round.
Man dragon has some interesting options. Seeker of Enlightenment is great with the whole put fate on rings powers. Kitsuki Investigator seems cool and I hope to see more like him. And as for paying for itself Enlightened Warrior could be played for 4 and then never leave thanks particularly if the dragon player spreads out the fate on the rings.
Some people said the Crane was broken...
I'm still not sure how well the "only have a few guys with tons of attachments" strategy will pan out, but there's some nice stuff here that definitely helps it look less iffy. Also, it's a neat twist that the Attachment Clan has the first 0-cost way to remove an attachment. It will be interesting to see how widely Let Go gets used by other Clans.
I like the monks a lot. More Ring-Fate shenanigans, and two conflict-deck monks that can be played as attachments? Weird and creative mechanic. Kazue is the first "non-loyal" (conflict deck) named character we've seen, and honestly that just further makes me suspect she's working to sabotage the Dragon, or at least twist them to fir her heretical / villainous views.
The Stronghold is neat, and probably will be at least solid, though I'm not in love with it further pushing Attachments as being everything. Then again, redundancy and reinforcement of a decks main mechanic is the most consistent way to make it effective, so I can understand why they went this route.
Yokuni is *nice* I'm surprised he has 3 Glory, though I suppose that will end up being standard for Champions (though I imagine Bayushi Shoju might have less, at least).
