Beta Rulebook?

By verdantsf, in Genesys

Will there be a beta rulebook available for Genesys, similar to the ones released for each line of SWRPG?

I'm going to guess no. It's already been in beta, as others have posted in different threads that they've beta'd it. The fact that the actual game release is 4th quarter of this year means there's not enough time to put out a more public release beta book, receive several waves of feedback, and then complete work on a final release.

Plus the beta testing has been four years of development on the Star Wars platforms. I cant imagine that they wont take what they've learn in that time and apply it to this system.

Still, they had beta books for AoR & FaD, so...it's not unthinkable.

They put the Beta books out for those systems a full year before they came out, and had announced them months before that. Anything is possible, but it's very unlikely.

They may have beta's down the road for actual setting books they do.

I don't know; if they didn't do it for the Corebook, I wouldn't expect them to go that route for a setting book...

I hate to be a Downer, but I have to agree here. It's highly unlikely. They've never put out an open public beta for anything except the Star Wars core books. Unless you're on their preferred list of beta testers I think you're probably out of luck. On the bright side, it's only 3 to 6 months until release. I know that seems like a long time, but in the world of game publishing it could be MUCH worse. We only have to do the impatient dance for a relatively short time.

I do hope they put out some more articles and dev blogs in the near future so we have more to talk about. I don't need a full book, but some more details on how it will all work would be nice.

I'm going to go with "very very unlikely". Unless they do some serious restructuring to the engine, FFG already has a pretty good handle on what works and what needs fixing. We know that they've been working on tweaks to the Wars Engine for ages now, so all that will probably be incorporated into the book, so what else needs addressing? Vehicles needs the most love, but magic already works pretty well. They've got a good idea on what talents not to mess with to break anything, and the character design is pretty easy.

So yeah, I'm not really sure what needs beta-ing.
