no repeats, no uniques

By Wiredin, in X-Wing Squad Lists

you ever get cautious of posting potential squads your using for an upcoming championship because your worried about others seeing what you may be bringing? Well I wasn't going to post this for this exact reason. This sunday we are doing an alternative format with no unique pilots and no repeating cards or ships. This limit even applies to models, so you can't take Black Squadron Tie and an Academy pilot. Very cool, very limiting.... I got three lists, one from each faction that I'm tossing around. I'm primarily a Rebel player, I suck really bad at imperials loosing every game I've run with them... but I feel they have the pilot skill advantage here.

Rebels:

Resistance Sympathizer (38)
Gunner (5)
Mercenary Copilot (2)

Red Squadron Veteran (26)
Push the Limit (3)
R2 Astromech (1)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Autothrusters (2)

Green Squadron Pilot (19)
Snap Shot (2)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Juke (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Total: 100

The YT1300 is most likely the weak spot here... The RSV should be a pretty good "ace" like build, GSP has proven to be very useful to me in the past using this build.

Shadow Squadron Pilot (27)
Fire-Control System (2)
Recon Specialist (3)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Royal Guard Pilot (22)
Push the Limit (3)
Stealth Device (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Royal Guard TIE (0)

Glaive Squadron Pilot (34)
Juke (2)
TIE/x7 (-2)

Total: 100

Very good PS advantage, Shadow Squadron Pilot should do pretty good at PS5 against most of what else can be fielded. Glaive's are still Defenders, and Defenders are still jerks. RGP should prove to live a bit longer without Dengar and Ketsu ruining his fun.

Mandalorian Mercenary (35)
Predator (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Cluster Mines (4)
Tail Gunner (2)
Cluster Missiles (4)
Scavenger Crane (2)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Contracted Scout (25)
Push the Limit (3)
Extra Munitions (2)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Unhinged Astromech (1)
Glitterstim (2)
Guidance Chips (0)

Total: 100

I've never flown a jump master nor have I flown a firespray. But I feel these are two very strong builds for this format...

Which would you fly? What would you change? Is the rebel list as big a steaming pile of garbage as I think it is?

Warden Squadron Pilot (23)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Extra Munitions (2)
Recon Specialist (3)
Cluster Mines (4)
Proximity Mines (3)
Advanced SLAM (2)

Red Squadron Veteran (26)
Push the Limit (3)
R2 Astromech (1)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Autothrusters (2)

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)

Total: 100

I feel this actually may be a way better Rebel list...

Are you allowed unique non-pilot upgrades? Because I suspect Bistan (works at range 1-2) will do more good than the Mercenary Copilot (works at range 3).

Alternatively, an Inspiring Recruit might be a good upgrade instead - being able to remove 2 stress instead of 1 from a green move will help your Veteran - you could Talon roll, then push the limit with pattern analyser (ending up double stressed) then pull a speed 2 turn next turn (with R2) and still come out unstressed.

That leaves a point spare, and XX-23 S-Thread Tracers plus Guidance Chips isn't a bad way to spend it - letting you trade a focus token for free locks for everyone.

This is a really interesting format, I'm really struggling to figure out good lists that work in it. It's a nice thing to experience, building for a completely novel meta.

nope, can't take Bistan. nothing with a dot, otherwise I'd have Lone Wolf on the Mando.

IR is not a bad idea for the dodgy X-Wing tho.
