Brainstorming New Upgrades for X-wings (New Upgrade: Strike Fighter)

Yes, this is “yet another X-wing fix thread”. But there are really cool ideas being shared.

Idea 1: Equipment Retrofit: the alternative to Integrated Astromech. It is basically a free shield upgrade with a cost. You all know that Integrated Astromech is terrific and it is, but it hurts my Star Wars fanboy inside me because not every astromech is built in and sealed to their ship (see my third post).

After reading what clanofwolves said in the T-65 fix based on fluff thread (“We've run X-Wings in Epic games and gave them a Proton Torpedo; it's thematic, it works great. They perform really well as they still get to choose from the Astromechs to put behind the pilots and it basically makes them 4 points cheaper without reducing the cost directly. It works in 100/6 games too.”) I was inspired to make Equipment Retrofit. Instead of getting a “free shield upgrade” with Integrated Astromech, you can get 4 points anything else.

Idea 2: Strike Fighter

This is anti-Chardaan Refit. It encourages torpedo running and doesn't do much for Biggs. To satisfy my fanboy, I cold simply run my X-wings with Vectored Thrusters. Plus now, there is still room for a fix title.

The difficulty I see with this mod is that many or most of the things a T-65 X-Wing might want are in the mod slot itself. For instance: Vectored Thrusters would be great on an X-Wing. I'm not sure they're worth 2 points on top of the X-Wing's cost, but for free? That could be amazing. Also, granted, your mod would allow a free BB8.

The other thing is that if I'm taking Torpedoes, I'd really like Guidance Chimps. And, well, as a mod that option is precluded.

I think if you make it a title called "integrated astromech" and give it the "limited" keyword, you'd prevent the stacking of both fixes that I think you're rightly afraid of. Doing that would let X-Wings take equipment that actually benefits their specific roll in a squad, without locking them into mechs just for the sake of having an extra shield.

Your upgrade bar gains the <torpedo> icon.

If you equip a (torpedo) upgrade, its squad point cost is reduced by 4 (to a minimum of 0).

Cost: 0

I think what the T65 needs is a title that adds barrel roll (well, that and a generic pilot with an apt...).

The T65 is not particularly maneuverable and is often criticised for its stiff, predictable flight. Changing the dial would be tricky, but barrel roll would give the T65 a little more unpredictability without being too powerful.

I'm of the opinion that ALL small *fighter* craft need a repositioning action (boost or barrel roll) and 21st least three actions.

For what it's worth, I think adding barrel to the Z95 would be fine as well. God knows it's just as stiff as the T65.

This would be enough for the T-65 IMO. (That and a PS6 Rogue Squadron Pilot with an EPT).

Or 4 Reds with R2, IA, GC and Plasmas.
And give all the aces the ability to take IA and VT.

But stops you being able to take IA and Hull/Shield.
