While the Kitty acts as sniper/finisher, Avenger is meant to unleash devastating blows, one-turn shooting at least medium enemy ships. SQ rerolls from BCC/Marek (double tap)/Sloane shall turn at least 2 defense tokens red. If not, Jonus will give aditional accs. Criticism welcome.

I think Sloane will be worth you have more fighters. 6 squadrons won't get much done in a turn, so tokens will refresh and it will be almost worthless. Rhymer is good for your squads to fire from outside range 1, or preventing you to go off the activation range, and one thing that can work well is Phantoms, double red with chances of hits, double hits, and accs along reroll if crit, you are more likely to get some decent damage done unless you only roll blanks. But I'm not very experienced, I'll page @Roquax who has a great Sloane list.

If you are going to run Sloane, you need to absolutely maximize her effect. This means taking max squadrons with the core component being Tie Fighters. I think the ideal Sloane squadron component has the following:

  • Howlrunner
  • Mauler
  • Valen
  • Jendon (need that relay)
  • Black squadron (escort just in case)
  • rest being Tie Fighters

Sloane also works well with Avenger. But in my experience, that leaves very little room for support units - usually limiting you to 4-5 Gozantis.

I'd go this route myself

That's 8 blue dice vs ships, ties activated through the quasar get 5 blue AA, the jumps get 4... plus everyone but howlrunner and dengar have counter 2... (not terrible.... gives the option to alpha the hell out of their squads then move in for a kill on the ship to strip defenses OR deal damage)

Test rolls (10) giving all 8 a shot at a ship comes out to an average of:

Concerning the tie slaghter, i fear that setting up the trap with quasar going first, followed by avenger will be as difficult as setting up the trap with a disp-cap raider followed by avenger. Those traps are in fact really hard to set up... therefore I leaned towards a avenger sq activation followed by (at least) partially undefendable shots. Especially Marek gets massiv rerolls (BCC, special ability, Sloane), hopefully gets a double tap by jendon and is backed up by more defenders. Any experience with this?

My second thought was to change the kitty to a low upgrade demo to create a second major threat, forcing the opponent to make hard decisions...

I think demo is a good idea. But sloane is kind of like an imperial sato. She wants fighters, and ships, and high activations, and avenger and at the end of the day balance is really tough to find. Something has to give, but give too much and you end up just not using her ability much. At that point, may as well have brought motti.

Good thing about a quasar with flight controllers is that when they arent stripping ship tokens they are stripping ace tokens with big buffed squad shots. You will maybe get 1 turn of the avenger sloane before they are tied up or killed, at least this way they are multi purpose.

Other than that, there is a lot of good advice here! Consider some of it, and get on the table to look for balance by trial and error.

The thing that has me scratching my head about Sloane is how you handle the TIE Fighter's vunerability to flak.

Make sure they have other things to worry about.... hard to justify AA dice When ISD Avenger is bearing down on you hard....
