Dual Faction Expansions and Tydirium shuttle

By Erion_Fett, in X-Wing

The Scurrg makes me think about new dual faction expansions which can come. Now we have Captain Nym (Also, we had already Boba and Kath Scarlet).

Some old ships and pilots could be dual/factioned in the future, and the ship which most intrigues me is the Lambda-Class Shuttle. It is not a ship which requires much rework, but it would be an interesting expansion. New pilots, and a Cannon just for the Lambda which can be shooted only outside the primary firing arc (to represent the back cannon without changing the base).

But I think in the future we can find with a title named "Tydirium" which makes, maybe working quite similar to the "Captured Tie" modification, and a couple of pilots (Han Solo or Nien Nunb, maybe?) for the rebels too?

yeah because we need another imperial staple become more effective when owned by rebels. Im sure noone will be salty over that :D

Eh. Rebels never actually fielded it in a combat situation. Plus they've got plenty double crew carriers already.

Now, Rebel Protectorates and/or Lancers on the other hand... Scum Auzitucks... Imperial ARC-170s maybe?

I need an errata to make Emon a Rebel pilot :P . He shouldn't really be on the Scum side.

The Tydirium would be a nice ship to see - but, yeah, the problem is what the hell it does in game - rebels don't really have any crew cards which justify a 21 point investment just to field (like Palpatine or a Fleet Officer/Systems Officer pair), and they have plenty of cheaper single-crew carriers which can provide more utility (like the K-wing and HWK). And 'big ship with forward only guns' has to compete with the effective agility 2 U-wing and 4-dice built like a tank VCX-100. The Lambda's stats and dial don't really deliver anything in those comparisons. You've already got the "don't shoot me" Sabine's TIE and the "where did he come from" Force Awakens Han, so I'm not sure what third mechanic we could use for the same broad effect.

Chewbacca (you'd keep his pilot ability of flipping cards face-down; same faction, same pilot, same era) is less impressive in a ship with only 5 hit points. Han's ability is okay.

The main thing is that adding EPT-capable pilots would have a big impact (it'd be good to add a couple of imperial pilots at the same time who also have EPTs)

A 'turret cannon' (retractable blaster mounts?) would give the Lambda a nice edge - but at the risk of turning it into a primary weapon turret-ish ship. Still, it'd be nice to see the lambda get a bit of a rework.

I'm not sure what I'd suggest for a 2-crew card for the Rebels. One that does spring to mind that would fit would be a Rebel Special Forces team; they don't do anything per se in a dogfight, but their presence clearly means the mission is important - I'd suggest a card which rewards you protecting it or encourages you to protect it (by giving you a bonus against anyone attacking it?)

Just an observation - with Sabine + the Bomblet Generator & Andrasta title combination, the Rebels really do not need Emon's ability.

The Rebels don't really need a dedicated crew carrier. Look at how well the U-Wing is doing in that role. And that flies at 2 agility.

Most of the ships that absolutely need to use a crew ability have their own crews slot. The best place for the good rebel crew options is usually on the ship that wants to use them.

When you get into Jyn / Jan combos, they likely won't need anything more then the Auzituck.

There is no expensive two-seater killer crew like Palp that would justify having a shuttle that doesn't contribute to the fight sitting at the back.

I'd love it if it came with a title (that allows you to equip a second one) that mirrors pivot wings, maybe with open wings making the turns white, with closed wings you may chose to execute 1 speed manoeuvres backwards, or turn around after 1 speeds, something to represent landing manoeuvrability.

Be careful what you wish for. Yes, it's got fluff in the Tydirium, but the ship suffers from the dial; suffers badly. It's the Empires opposite of the Jumpmaster, it's dial is inverted. If it was a Rebel ship, let's be honest, it would get less use than the U-Wing. @Admiral Deathrain is correct though, Imps need an Imperial Shuttle Only modification to come out with a future Expansion --like the Gunboat-- that allows shuttles to flip around; that would do wonders for the hobbled crew carriers that the Imperials have been gifted....wonders. Heck, it might actually help save the Empire.

For the love of the Empire, please , stop stealing our ships!

We rebels prefer the term "acquiring".

Acquire your own! Those ships aren't cheap, ya know!

That's the point! :D

In other news... Captured Assault Gunboat just announced ;)

U-Wing is better than the Lambda already, and fills the same roll.

Edit: For fluff, sure, it would be cute to see the Tydirium , but not sure its worth bothering with

Jeez, the forums would burn if that happened...

Consider this: It would be a great expansion that could come with some strictly military "Rebel and Empire only" crew to counterbalance some of the great scum options, K2-SO, and a factionless Lamda-buff that utilizes the models flappy wings for style. Should also have an imperial pilot with Elite upgrade in the same way the Scurrg comes with one rebel.

And then some way to represent the deception for rebels, like captured TIE. Something like "you can't be attacked, discard after you attack. In the end phase roll a red dice, on a focus result discard. Action: After you discard a title card this round you may flip it face up again." Edit: Nevermind, that would mean you could attack and then flip...it should be worded to remove the roll in the end phase or its impact. To represent having to constantly transmit fake codes or risk detection. I don't think that would be all that good, but fun for theme.

The rule of cool says that a unique 'spray (Emon) and a unique Lambda (Han/Chewie) should be open to the rebels. I reckon Emon would get on well with Sabine...

Would personally only like to see it in a campaign pack (coming with an alt paint of some other relevant small ship, but pilot tokens and pilot cards for other ships for use in scenario specific games).

Jm5k for Imperial and Rebel
