Seeing it from the other side

By SmartZiohiroshi, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Wasn't sure if I could post this here or not. But I figure if this is still up in a day or two, then I'm in the clear.

So, I've just started to try and craft a decent story for a campaign I'm going to run. Though I like the feel of what I'm preparing; even going so far as to create completely improvised campaigns for every player I welcome into the group (simply so they can get a feel for the game and so they feel more connected to their chracters before joining the main group/campaign. I'm up to 6 players btw).

But, even with all that, I feel like I'm missing (or rather sorely lacking) some key experience. So I looked and found a few videos of people playing this edition of the game on youtube, and thoroughly enjoyed one in particular (Pencils and Parsecs). It still wasn't what I needed.

So I've come to the conclusion that I need to see this game from the other side. As a player. Sadly, I haven't been able to find a local group (through what little connections I have).

So if there is anyone in the NYC area (primarily The Bronx, Manhattan or Brooklyn) who is running the game and wouldn't mind taking on an extra player, please let me know and we can hash out the details. Thank you in advance.

I know @Donovan Morningfire is up that way somewhere...

I'm a good deal further north from where the OP is looking. That and the groups I'm don't have any openings for new players at the moment.

Hey I got the right ball park....

Hi Smart,

It would definitely be less effective than becoming a participating player, but it might be a bit easier to sit in with another group as an observer for a couple of sessions.

Another thing to do is give a listen to the order 66 podcast.

Thanks for the advice. I sincerely appreciate it :)

A small tip they dont use the word cinematic in the book all the time for nothing, so use films as your example, think - Would this look cool in a film? if so, then you wre good, screen wipe much of the minutiae , dont waste time on the mundane, or call for rolls , when it is meaningless, dont have progress hang on a roll either, if the PCs have to make an Astrogation check or the game comes to a halt have failure mean something else bad happens, rather than they dont get there, or dont make the roll and just narrate success. Otherwise you just sit there making the same or similar Astrogation rolls. A single roll means much more than a single attack, it can be melee skill check but can be narrated a combo of weapon strikes head butts, force power uses, as long as the result is the same, how its narrated makes it more awesome.

When Darth Maul pulls the combo thst finishes Qui Gon, that would be one check, but it was a combo of attacks including a hilt strike, which is much better than saying , you hit him with your double bladed light saber for 11/damage killing the jedi outright. Instead you say things like " you gather up your anger and hatred that has been pent up all these years against the jedi, and deftly parry (not the talent psrry, narrative parry) the attack stepping i. close you bring up the hilt of your double bladed saber and catch him in the lower face , stunning him momentarily as you spin on your heal swiftly burying your red pulsing blade deep into his chest, his eyes looking disbelieving at you all the time as he slumps to his knees gasping with his last breath, you turn to face his padawan, who now seems less of a jedi and more a man as he leers at you angrilh through the ray sheild waiting impatiently to test his blue blade one more time against yours. Now who is up next?
