How cool would it be if more factions were added. Like Separatists and The Republic, but not as addons to The Rebellion and Empire. It would also be cool to see The First Order and The Risistance break off. That would be cool to see an Empire verses The Republic in battle.

I was discussing this with a friend the other day. I think that is the main reason FF isn't doing prequel ships. You can't have Republic as part of the rebellion as they of course become the Empire. But their ships would feel very out of place in the Empire lineup. That would also mean having things like Captain Rex as a Rebel and an Imperial and do the Republic ships get their own versions of R2-D2 and C3-P0? So they would have to do Separatists and Republic as 2 new factions. It could be interesting having Jedi star fighters, and droids. But it would mean they would need to release at least 2 full waves of nothing but those factions to get them up to snuff. Possible? yes, but it isn't very likely. I think SW: Rebels, and the occasions "reconditioned" (ARC-170) ship are as far back as they are going to go. There is still plenty of lore to mine for new ships, and with the movies being on an annual release, you can bet they'll have plenty of new material. After all, Lucas pretty much invented movie tie in products so you can be we'll see new ship variations in every movie just so they can make new toys, and we get new toys too.

Plus there are issues that nothing is marked Resistance Only or First Order only; Kylo Ren is, for example, 'Imperial Only'.
