I have got a question about the cannons.

When Heroes fires a cannon can they use their normal black dices with the cannon and what about when monsters fires a cannon?

Monster Traits
"When manning stations or firing cannons, sometimes the overlord will need to calculate a monster’s Melee, Ranged, or Magic trait. Each monster has a primary trait and two secondary traits. A monster’s primary trait is the same as its attack type, while its other two traits are its secondary traits. For instance, a
Beastman’s primary trait is Melee (the same as its attack type), while its secondary traits are Ranged and Magic."

And there is a chart right below that statement with the dice for the traits.

Ok, now for the dumb question: Do cannons only roll black dice, or do they just roll "trait" dice, so if my monsters or heroes are rolling silver or gold for that trait, do they get silver and gold dice for the cannon?

Trait dice. You are making an attack with the cannon as your weapon (pg26). So if you a black, a silver and a gold, that's what you roll. Monster use the chart on pg27, which has them rolling silver/gold dice based on their monster type level. So a silver Skeleton rolls 2 black and 2 silver using a cannon whose attack type is ranged.
