Took a break from the forum and..

By Zazaa, in X-Wing

So I took fairly long break from X-Wing forum and squad builders and today I made some theory crafting first time awhile and I actually got very excited again. Biggest thing was I recovered from X-Wing forum depression, no more worries about all the current nerfs, OP's and so on, this forum can be very toxic for X-Wing enthusiastics. I got filled with new ideas for casual games and made important realization that most important thing in X-Wing Is courage to enjoy the diversity of squads we can build and play with, all games should be considered as casual, tournaments and games with friends. I feel very liberated!

I couldn't care less about meta and what people are whining about or which squads they are going play. I actually enjoy so much X-Wing that there should not be any room for this ongoing stupidity. X-Wing Is so much better with fun squads than meta. I hope all the best to X-Wing community, I'm not going to quit forum but rather enjoy the game!

Cheers!

I applaud you for enjoying the game of plastic spaceships for what it is. Fun.

You seen the newest stuff by FFG (scum aces, C-Roc, Agressor, Skurrg, Rebel Gunboat)? its a very interesting time to be a theorycrafter...

Taking these boards too seriously is the first step towards insanity.

Fly casual.

Yesterday at my local championship won a: z-95, z-95, pava, y-wing, y-wing list. Don't listen to worries

This is me all the time. Other than a discussion with my brother about Scurgg vs K-Wing (me saying they're balanced with each other) I don't complain. I just have fun and roll with it.

The wooden wonder isn't a gunboat, per say, it's a gunship. ;)

This forum is a slimy mudhole. The more time you spend off it the happier you'll be. Unless you, like me, enjoy a nice cup of schadenfreude in the morning.

I think it takes a bit of knowing which threads to jump into and which ones to stay away from. Or....being able to ignore certain threads for what they are and deal with the people that are decent in each thread.

I have found that talk of casual games have gained more acceptance than they used to. Just make sure in your posts to state you play one way or the other and you don't end up with one of those arguments of casual vs. tournament. I think both camps have learned to just not bother entering into that discussion these days. I'm happy about that. I can say I have fun with "x" ship and not get lambasted because it's not been seen at the top tables of worlds. Also, less "militant casual" people blasting those that play tournament that they are doing it wrong.

We must segregate the community. Millitant Casuals will not be allowed to post in Dedicated Tryhard threads, Rebellionaires are unwelcome in Scum Cantinas, and Civil Servants of the Galactic Empire that Lost to Ewoks will be sequestered from all others, alone in their misery. Independantly Superior Backseat Game Designers will be shepherded onto a mountain, to craft a game better than the one we have now, and while their guard is down we'll shoot them off into space. Each little echo chamber, getting louder and louder, until we all go mad.

Sounds good, right?

That or we can just chill out a bit and never forget we are playing with tiny plastic spaceships. Whatevs.

I'm sure posts like this help the general atmosphere a lot.

Aaaaanyway: I'd also say some of the more toxic whining threads have disappeared and that currently, judging from the front page, the forum is in a pretty good mental health state right now :D

He's kinda right unfortunately. A significant amount of space on this forum is dedicated to either complaining that the game is not what somebody thinks it should be, or explaining other people they are enjoying the game wrong. Really constructive conversations are not the majority.

X-wing is an investment in fun. If you're not having fun, you are tossing money (and all that precious time!) in the garbage as far as Im concerned. There is no pro-league with sponsors, etc. We "competitive" players are paying $15-$25 to play for cardboard and acrylic prizes. You aren't paying rent/mortgage or putting your kids through college even if you sell them on ebay for $50.

ALWAYS HAVE FUN!

Taking this game too seriously is ridiculous. Forums are forums. Dont read whining threads. Battle Reports are probably the best thing to read around here cause they are generally positive as most people dont spend time to write up reports on their 0-5 store champ outtings, only their top cut finishes.

The general forums are used as an outlet. Unless you have close friends/family that also plays the game, who else are you going to complain too about your frustrations? Anonymous internet Xwing players, thats who! Nothing wrong with that, but people reading the forums just have to learn what threads to read and what to skip, like @heychadwick mentioned.

Anyways, welcome back and happy forum post hunting.

Except he's not wrong. I almost responded with the virtually the same wording, only I'm more inclined to use the term "toxic waste dump" instead of "slimy mudhole."

I don't mind people venting or complaining about the game (I do that myself), even when I don't agree with them, but I cannot abide the folks who a) can't accept that somebody might have a different opinion, or b) are incapable of being even remotely civil to each other. I can guarantee that these socially maladjusted turds don't have the stones to speak to real people like that. ...Or if they do, they either have some kind of social disorder or they spend a lot of time nursing black eyes. It's much more likely that they avoid real human interaction whenever possible, and cope with their insecurities by making strangers feel bad on the internet.

I took a big step back from the forums recently and haven't regretted it. I didn't post much before, but now I hardly post at all, and I'm very quick to hit the "Close" button when I hit a gnarly patch in a thread. It's sad that one has to wade through so much toxicity to get to the quality content. There aren't any comparable places to get the same content (in terms of popularity or amount of activity), or I would be there in a heartbeat. What I wouldn't give for forum moderator privileges on here...

Done it. Brought a 97 points list with inside a 14 points "useless" ship to a tournament, everybody was: that thing s**ks, bring a decent list next time bla bla... made it to second place XD during the semifinals all their voices became: nice list, original bla bla... inconsistent people

I think everyone has started X-Wing to have fun, but also many of us have been also drawn out of it at one point in our time.

I'm pretty close to get back to my home country and I will be able to play again with my real collection and open up my Croc that is waiting me! :)

I don't think anyone has ever associatied escaping excessively aggressive negativity with going to Reddit before, that's like saying you went to Tumblr because you wanted a less judgemental environment or you went to 4chan because you were tired of racism and nightmarish hentai.

I disagree. There's a thing I call "official forum syndrome", where as soon as a place is officially the forum dedicated to a game and provided by the game's creating company, people from all over the place get the idea that they should be listened to by the developers if they post there, and that leads to really strange threads at times...

Granted, it's less dominant here than elsewhere. People on here generally know that the FFG devs don't officially read these forums.

I never said that these forums aren't riddled with entitlement and negativity, just that Reddit on a whole is known for its hyper agressive naysaying and how ridiculously seriously they take smallest and pettiest things.
