Improvised items.

By cynanbloodbane, in Star Wars: Armada

I was cleaning the garage, picking up chunks of styrofoam packing material when I was reminded of hoarding chunks of the stuff as a kid to use as the Rebel base on Hoth. It got me thinking, what improvised Items do everyone use for some aspect of Armada? Also what was everyone else's favorite improvised Star Wars related item as a kid?

For Armada, I use chunks of 12 gage copper wire to replace broken pegs on the bottom of small ships, because it is sized perfectly, and easy to file flat on the front to fit the FFG stands.

As a Kid, my brother and I used to swipe our little sister's booster chair and flip it over to be the bunker on Endor.

So what are or were your favorite improvised items? With this group, I'm fully expecting several posts that make me wonder why I never thought of that.

So bring on you Star Wars Armada Life Hacks.

I've shown this before, but I did make a really cool Death Star and SWM20 out of cardboard.

Also, a black 3x6 yoga mat makes a great play surface.

A d6 die or a foam/wood cube with painted sides works so much better than the double-sided orange/blue token and six individual number tokens that it seems insane to use the components the game was packaged with. One thing that is a million times more convenient and easy to use than the two messy components that were designed for marking the rounds and squadron activations. Even the new promo acrylic dial is not quite as dead-easy to use as a colored cube.

Yes. Yes it does.

...and SWM20...

-3'x6' black yoga mat

-a foam die colored and marked to look like a d6 had a baby with a chance cube. Works well as a turn counter

-Red and Blue sharpie on the bases of the ships and squads. Looks like colored plastic. Easy to apply. Does take a bit to wipe the excess off so it stops rubbing tiny bits off of your hands.

Putting quarters or washers under squadrons makes it easier to track their original position when awkwardly maneuvering over them.

3x6 yoga mat is king

Privateer Press 30mm base huggers. Great for marking squadron locations, and tracking wounds without continuously picking up your squadrons.

LoS Laser

The foam/wood cube with orange and blue and numbers on it is awesome for sure

I have a poker chip from the Brothers Grimm meta in LI i use if both players have the same bid/mark initiative

most important accessories are also a bath robe, a bubble pipe, and a glass of scotch.... its a gentlemen's game after all.
