Carrion Lancer Ability with move modifier

By DivisibleByZero, in Runewars Rules Questions

The carrion lancer has an action to use his ability which can be combined with a march action on the modifier dial. Am I allowed to perform the move before doing the ability action? In other words, if I start out of range of a unit, am I able to use the movement to get into range and then give them the blight token?

Modifier is always after the action, so no. Reanimates can do this with an embedded lancer though, since they have a white skill modifier.

You could however give them Wind Rune and Simultaneous Orders. It would allow you to use the special action to do both movement and blighting in whichever order you want. I'm planning on giving this a go for my next game to see how it works out.

While this combination technically works... the absolute minimum cost for this unit is 35 pts in a list that includes Ardus, and it's only spitting out one blight per turn.

For fewer pts, you could just take two solo lancers who can blight twice, or with Ardus embed a lancer in a 3x2 that can move/blight naturally.

There are definitely cheaper options but my original thoughts about the 2x1 CL w/Wind Rune and SO was more of a tactical choice. In my last few games against Daqan, I've had trouble getting the blight train going in the early game. It's too easy for a Daqan player to sit back and stack inspiration tokens before charging across the battlefield so I wanted to come up with a way to close the gap and get some early game blight going. I think a 2x1 Carrion Lancer unit (or two) could fit this role because they can move and "shoot" in the same turn plus they have a little more survivability. Maybe I'll take this to the tactics section. :)

Daqan can spend multiple inspiration, right?

something we played wrong early days was 1 inspiration per activation

Correct. With Hawthorne and an early rally they mitigate a lot of blight right away.

There is not a 1 per on any tokens, although some only require 1 (stun, immobilize) for full effect.
