Crackshot timing

By Arbiter7, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi guys,

i was at a acasual tourney yesterday and I faced a couple of swarms with crackshot. Both my opponents waited to see whether I would use the evade token and then declare if they would use crackshot.

I read through the rules and think this is wrong. The rules are clear:

1.Defender rolls defence die.

2. Attacker modifies defence die.

3.Defender Modifies defence die.

4. Compare results step.

Cancelling an evade result through a card effect clearly counts as the attacker modifying the defense die in the rules (p12)

Adding an evade result by spending a token clearlc counts as the defender modifying his dice in the rules (p12)

Therefore, according to the timing of actions, the decision to use crack shot comes before the decision to spend a token.

What do you think?

The F.A.Q. has you covered!

Crack Shot

This card should read: “When attacking a ship inside your firing arc, at the start of the ‘Compare Results’ step, you may discard this card to cancel 1 of the defender’s evade results.”

Sneaky little card. Thanks.

Also dice cancellation *isn't* dice modification in the x wing rules. Dice Modification is:

Adding die results (e.g. evade tokens, Backdraft's ability, Concord Dawn Protector title)

Changing results (e.g. focus token, autothrusters, ARC-170 title rear arc ability)

Rerolling dice (e.g. Target Lock, Lone Wolf, Predator)

Adding dice prior to rolling (Jan Ors, range bonuses, ARC and TIE/sf titles) and cancelling dice (Crack Shot, first part of Accuracy Corrector) are not Modifications.
