Uhm.... hoth doesnt count? What about the escape from the death star in anh?

Edited by MaxPower

Just using 1 per movie.

1) Endor

2) Yavin

3) Hoth

4) Scarif

5) That is all. The battles in the prequel are dull with no emotional "omph" whatsoever. They feel very sterile.

Edited by Dr Zoidberg

1) Battle of Scarif
2) Battle of Endor
3) Battle of Coruscant
4) Battle of Yavin
5) Jango vs Obiwan
6) Asteroid Field
7) Starkiller Base
8) Battle of Naboo

Coruscant was just huge! It was basically Endor but with new technology. Unfortunately we don't see much of the space battle, but the same is true for Endor.
Scarif was really great.

1. Battle of Endor
2. Battle of Scarif
3. Battle of Yavin
4. Asteroid Field
5. Jango vs Obi Wan
6. Escape from the Death Star

Not sure that Starkilller Base is even the best battle in Force Awakens, and Jango vs Obi Wan is the only decent space battle in the prequels from my point of view (and worthy of being on the list as being a one-on-one, it's different from the rest)

  1. Battle of Hoth (The Empire Strikes Back)
  2. Battle of Scarif (Rogue One)
  3. Battle of Endor (Return of The Jedi)
  4. Battle of Yavin (Star Wars)
  5. Battle of Takodana (The Force Awakens)
  6. Obi-Wan Vs Jango (Attack of The Clones)
  7. Asteroid Field (The Empire Strikes Back)
  8. Battle of Coruscant (Revenge of The Sith)

Quick post without time to rank but Yavin to me has to forever and always and ever be first, because without the very first, no one goes to the theatre to see any of the rest.

i get I'm old, but if I could only describe what it was like being 7, seeing the original Star Wars in the theatre, it was simply so amazing it is hard to describe. Nothing like it ever happened before, and the feeling of that battle couldn't be replicated. Basically good for life on that one! :)

With modern eyes, id have to pick Scarif, but I'm all about the battles pretty much no matter what do it's hard to rank them.

1. Scarif

2. Takodana

3. Hoth

4-whatever. Meh.

I do love the originals, but going purely based on battles nothing really compares to the new stuff.

Edited by Skargoth

1. Scarif
2. Endor
3. Yavin

Rest are ok, no real order for me though

Yavin trench run: original and had great tension

Battle of Scarif: it was epic

Battle of Endor: there's too many of them!

MF chase on Jakku

Battle of Coruscant

all the rest

1. Yavin

2. Endor

3. Scarif

4. Finn and Poe's escape

The Space Battles in the prequels were collectively bad. Escape from Naboo was a plot device solely for the purpose of introducing R2-D2. Battle of Naboo was bad because a 9-year-old accidentally destroyed a ship twice the size of a Star Destroyer. Jango hunting Obi wasn't a battle, it was poorly executed Slave I fan service. The battle over Coruscant was ruined by bad dialogue delivered by the worst actor ever to portray a role in Star Wars.

For prequel-era, the best space battles are in The Clone Wars series. I'll group those as my #5.

1) Endor

2) Scariff

3) Coruscant

4) Yavin

5) Naboo

6) Starkiller

7) Obi vs Jango

8) Falcon vs TIES

Putting Endor first would be based entirely on Nostalgia. Based on quality and and excitement I'd rank them:

1) Scarif

2) Starkiller

3) Endor

4) Yavin

5) Naboo

6) Coruscant (could have been higher with more screen time, and that focused less on the stupid buzz Droid scene )

1. Endor (nostalgia ftw.)

2. Scarif (probably the actual best.)

3. Starkiller base.

4. Coruscant (as brief as it was.)

Also, this belongs in off topic.

I'm with you 100% on the "new kid feel" but for me it will always be Hoth. The @@s blew me away, and I love the look of the T-47.

Having said That, Scarif is my new number one. Rogue One was everything I ever wanted a post OT movie to be.

Then it's

Asteroid Chase

Endor

Yavin

Starkiller Base

Nothing in Clones

Maul vs Obi wan

Obi wan vs Anakin

Because the lightsaber fights are better than the space battles in the prequels.

1) Yavin

2-n) the rest

What is wrong with you people? ;p

I understand that the Battle of Endor (spaceside) may not be as nickle-slick as some of the new battles, but I say watch it again before bumping it down the list. The Rebels are engaging a full imperial fleet. I know we saw Vader's ISD cut a Nebulon B in half at Scarif, but that ship was preparing to make the jump to hyperspace. At Endor, one of my favorite scenes is the one with a Nebulon B exchanging fire with a star destroyer at point blank range. Endor is Trafalgar, Jutland, and Leyte Gulf with a "trench run" thrown in as the cherry on top. It's Wedge's finest hour between maneuvering a tie interceptor into crashing into a ship and taking out the power regulator on the north tower. Given the technical challenges of the day it's even more amazing. Yes, Scarif shows how the rebels fight with everything they have and then some, but Endor set the tone for that. 'Adjust for inflation' when considering the Battle of Endor. If Kathy K wanted to take the sarlac's beak out of RotJ and even re-use the footage of the star destroyers using their turrets from Scarif that's fine by me.

Endor

Scarif

Hoth (Yes, the spaceside sequence is brief, but makes ever frame count. "Sir, Rebel ship are coming into our sector!" Good, our first catch of the day")

Coruscant (without the buzz droid interruption)

Trench run battles are more their own category in my mind. They feel more like watching the Battle of Britain than some of the great naval movies.

Hoth was so epic. No doubt.

For me, the best bit of Endor is the rest of the battle raging while Wedge and Lando make their trench run. That shot of Ackbar ordering the fleet to concentrate fire on the Executor has so much going on in the frame. There is an ISD detonating, whilst a TIE swoops past the view screen only to be blasted by an X-Wing. Then those A-Wings swooping in to blow the shield generator; all to J.William's absolutely epic score.

"Intensify forward firepower!"

As you say, it laid the foundation for Scarif and you can see in Scarif the tone of Endor, just improved by 30 years of VFX.

Hey now, Ewan McGregor had big shoes to fill. You shouldn't be so hard on him.

1) Scarif

2) Endor

3) Yavin

4) The rest

Endor

Scarif

Coruscant

Yavin

Geonosis

Naboo

What about the epic, and somewhat controversial, Dejarik Battle from A New Hope?...

... though, there was only going to be one sure outcome of that.

1: Yavin - tension, characterisation, great camera shots.
2: Scarif - awesome action, get to see a big space battle
3: Endor - stuff happening, matters, takes its time.
4: The first 10 seconds of the battle of Coruscant - amazing sweeping vista, great sense of scale as the Eta-2s fly by the Venator
5: Hoth asteroid field - fun with Han.
6: Escape from the death star - don't get cocky!
7: Starkiller base - fun, but it cuts way too fast, you don't really get a sense of the characters in the ships.
8: The prequel battles, including the rest of Coruscant. Naboo is an annoying mess, Jango-Obi-wan is ludicruous, you see dozens of shots hitting Obi-Wan's ship, but nothing happens. How strong are the shields? Or are Slave-1's lasers actually re-purposed tattoo guns?
