My Sato Assault Frigate List

I would get rid of the VCX and Medical Team and replace with Tycho. His speed 5 and ace ability will almost guarantee you have a squad in range to proc Sato. I'd be tempted to put Flight Coordination Teams on the MC80, and drop Flight Controllers. It'll give all your squads a free move of 1, furthering their threat to proc Sato....and that Tycho at 1 + 5, could be nasty. The other thing I'd watch out for is Intel from your enemy. You will get locked up quick without one of your own. Maybe one less X-Wing for a HWK - Jan would be better but I'm short 3 points or so. You could get rid of DTT - but it's such a good value card. For your list I guess that's where I'd cut, since it's built around Sato and the only way to use him is to keep those squads alive.

With Sato you have to remember a good potion of your fighters are not there to win the fighter game they are instead target drones. You need a mix of long range target drones ( Awings) and short tangle target drones ( y wings) as theses are both cheap and expendable. I always use cheap fighters for target drones as you are going to need to sacrifice them as single exposed units...

Gallant haven does not work well with Sato as you need to move a lot of your fighters to his ships and not keep them next to haven.

all your assault frigates want OE as you will be pumping out black dice all over the place.

you don't need dual turbo lasers on your star cruiser as you will be turning your reds to more interesting dice, with better mod options, so you have a few options:

1) OE, SW7, this lets you max long range black dice damage and fix blue damage

2) Sw7 only, with this cheap option you max on blue dice giving you some of the best fixed damage in the game...because you have not purchased OE you can add gunnery team if you fancy.

3) leading shots, because Sato can give you a long range blue you can use it at all ranges.... Cheap but you lose dice, this is a better option on the battle cruiser version with gunnery team..

After playing a game with 3 sato frigates i vehemently agree with the above. Either sw7 or oe is absolutely essential. Since you dont have crit effects you need those sato dice to perform well above average to have there be any reason to use sato

Whats Sato for with a triple frigate list? I dont get it

It was 1000 points, so wasmt tournament list. 3 af at 400pts would not be effective. Just trying to cite anecdotal experience rolling lots of sato dice shot from and assault frigate.

Recently i have been flying sato exclusively when i am compelled to play rebels. I am dead set on getting him work, and have been testing him with lots of different combos still havent found one list that sings. The advice above however is the same whether it is 1 or 100 frigates or whatever ship you want to use sato with. They need dice manipulation in addition to the sato effect.

I asked because I dont understand what Sato is doing for this list.

I agree here.. Tycho is very good in collaboration with Sato..
