The Sad, Dark Legacy of the Skywalker Family (Or: Evil Skips a Generation)

By Hol Coronet, in Star Wars: Destiny

Hey guys, got a new deck here in need of some fine-tuning. I actually have most of these cards but I haven't play tested it at all yet as I'm missing the Holocrons, which I feel are a pretty major part of the deck. There are some cards that might work well (Kylo's saber, a second Force Speed) are probably a little too pricey for me as singles. I'm not looking to win any big tournaments or anything, just for something that will let me do pretty well in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Battlefield:

Emperor's Throne Room

Characters:

2x Darth Vader - Dark Apprentice

2x Kylo Ren

Upgrades:

2x Force Push

1x Force Speed

2x Force Throw

2x Lightsaber

2x Lure of Power

2x Mind Probe

2x Sith Holocron

1x Vibroknife

Support:

1x Command Shuttle

2x Power of The Dark Side

Event:

2x Anger

2x Enrage

2x Force Strike

2x Lightsaber Throw

2x Power of The Force

1x Trust Your Instincts

2x Use The Force

This will do just fine in a casual environment! If you want it to be balanced with your friends' casual decks, I honestly wouldn't change much!

If you want to make it stronger, I'd consider getting another Command Shuttle and Vibroknife, but I wouldn't worry about it.

You might also benefit from some more dice control, such as Isolation, Feel Your Anger, and Overconfidence. I'm not convinced of Power of the Dark Side's efficacy here - it's a great card, but it might be too expensive and slow you down. Power of the Force is a tough card to make work, but I love the art! You might want to take it out to make room for other cards. I also think your events are relatively expensive - you might find yourself struggling for economy.

Throne Room is a good battlefield, but it might be nice to use one that boosts your economy, such as Moisture Farm or Imperial Armory.

These are just my suggestions - this deck already looks plenty powerful for casual play!

As an aside... your thread title mentioned the dark legacy of the Skywalker family and it made me really sad that Cade Skywalker has roughly a 0% chance of showing up in this game... :(

I'll take a look at those suggestions, thanks. Another Vibroknife is definitely in the works, but I'm going to try cracking another one rather than paying the price they're going for. At least while I can get packs of SoR anyway.

I'll have another go at it. The problem I'm running into now is that I find it much easier to deckbuild with the cards in hand rather than the online builders, but I am sorely lacking in Awakenings cards.

Ok, so I've gotten a lot more Awakenings cards now and I've revised this slightly. I still need another Holocron, but aside from that everything is here. I'm hoping to play this sometime either next week or the week after.

Battlefield:

Imperial Armoury

Characters:

2x Darth Vader - Dark Apprentice

2x Kylo Ren

Upgrades:

2x Force Push

1x Force Speed

1x Force Throw

2x Lightsaber

2x Lure of Power

1x Mind Probe

2x Sith Holocron

1x Vibroknife

Support:

1x Command Shuttle

Event:

2x Anger

2x Enrage

2x Feel Your Anger

2x Force Strike

2x Isolation

2x Lightsaber Throw

2x Overconfidence

1x Trust Your Instincts

2x Use The Force

I still feel like Anger is way too situational, it can be helped by playing Manipulate, but that's just playing another marginally good card to justify an already marginally good card.

You need to have 2 blanks AND your opponent needs to have a damage face showing that's not a modifier AND you may possibly still have to pay a resource to resolve it.

Way too many conditions for it to be a reliable event in your deck.

Would Doubt be a good replacement for Anger? I definitely feel you on how situational it is. I've had it sitting in my hand in so many games without the right conditions.

I've got an eVader/eKylo deck I've been playing that goes against convention if you're interested. What sets it apart is no holocrons, and no ability upgrades. I use a lot of mitigation, and rely on light sabers, vibros, and the boys themselves for the damage. If you have any interest, I'll post the deck later today.

My main goal with the deck is to prove that you don't need the holocrons to do well with it.

That does sound interesting. I'd be grateful if you could post the list.

Yeah Doubt is a pretty solid option, there are dice where it is just straight up removal (overkill) and there are dice where your really taking a gamble, but it better to have the option constantly available to you than a situational card that might not be usable when you need it the most.

So finally here's the no holocron version.

Battlefield: Any, but whichever you choose should be of as little benefit to your expected opponent(s). I'm usually not trying to claim first.

Typical choices might be Mos Eisley or Echo Base.

UPGRADES: Force Speed x1 (Simply because I've got one. I don't think this build needs one.), Lightsaber x2, Makashi Training x2, Vibroknife x2

EVENTS: Abandon All Hope x2, Close Quarters Assault x2, Deflect x2, Doubt x2, Feel Your Anger x2, Force Strike x2, Isolation x2, Lightsaber Throw x2, No Mercy x2, Overconfidence x2, Manipulate x2, Enrage x1

The cards in bold are cards that I like, and have worked in this deck. This is simply to give you an idea of what can be done without the holocron.

The bottom line is I feel Little Vader and Kylo can do enough damage on their own to simply not need it. Their does need to be as much mitigation as you've got, though. In my opinion it's as important to stop the damage as it is to do the damage.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Kevin
