Alt Art JESS PAVA and JAKKU GUNRUNNER
That's an awesome looking gunrunner, love the horizontal alt art cards.
Excellent work
If it makes the quadjumper king happy, I'm happy!

To bad I'd need four for my listing needs......
I was fully expecting the alt art quaddie to just be a large explosion.
I like Jess, but the other one...
that one's garbage
derp forgot rey was talking about the falcon
these are pretty!
Edited by ficklegreendiceHow could you miss a chance to have it be the exploding Quadjumper?
I mean, really, that's pretty much the most screen time it had.
Edited by kris40kWhat the hell is with the formatting on that card?
Are all the alt art pilots sideways like that? I mean, I'm sure they aren't, I've seen them.
Seriously, what's the deal with that?

I've seen a handful of sideways alt art cards, I think it's pretty neat.

Umm.... it's sideways. Maybe dial it down from '11' to about '3'?

It's not JUST sideways. There's like 6 different design elements that make it completely different from the standard card.
There's no text block at all, there's no upgrade bar, the upgrades are just free floating, the point value is oddly in the middle of the card, etc.

Umm, it's an Alternate Art card, the purpose is to be different. In this case it's also to be simpler.
I like the Gunrunner art and horizontal positioning, though I'd prefer the icons in different positions.
The suggestion about an exploding Quadjumper (movie still?) as an alt art is hilarious and should be done.
Jess looks great -- looking forward to seeing the full card. She's one I wish we could get an official alt art card for.

So?
Well, I don't know if you know this, but the point of having uniform design elements on a playing card is so that they are immediately read and understood at a glance by everyone.
Anyone not familiar with the card(like your opponents) has to waste time figuring out where the **** everything is on it.
Compare that to, say, the alt art for Push The Limit, though some of the boxes are resized, everything is still essentially in the same place it is on a normal upgrade card.
And when compared with other alt art pilot cards, the formatting doesn't change at all. Just, you know, the art.

If this was any kind of official thing you'd have a point.
But it's not.
Redesigning the card frames is just as legit for unofficial alt-arts as redesigning the artwork.
The landscape format cards are some of my favourites, they look better to me, and they fit into these https://www.chaoscards.co.uk/accessories-c1/binders-pocket-pages-c6/ultimate-guard-ultimate-guard-14-pocket-a5-standard-size-mini-american-compact-pages-10-pages-black-p134578 whilst keeping the same orientation as the upgrades, which i like.
But then I guess I'm well past the point where I really need cards at all except as a repository for shields and damage cards.

Fair enough.

Actually, he still has a point, whether or not its an official event. Being an official event just matters if someone would have recourse to complain about it being used.
Official or not, the card should still be easily readable so your opponent can understand what you have at a glance. Like you said, you (and most of us here) simply use the cards as an easy way to track damage cards and shield tokens, really, we don't need cards, and many people play with simple printouts of lists, etc.
But not everyone is that knowledgeable about every possible ship and card combination, and therefore there is value to keeping to some sort of standard layout to allow for quick and easy identification of relevant information while in game.

Hey Guys!
The Horizontal orientation is an artistic choice. It allowed the artist to create more of a cinematic viewpoint for the art.
While the formatting may be different, all of the essential information is there. Having been to many formal events I will tell you that non-official alt art cards are very common and when using them it is good practice to simply put the official card behind the alt art in the sleeve just in case you come across an opponent that has an issue with it.
Have a good one!
