Whisper, Duchess, Pure Sabacc build

By 1firefghter, in X-Wing Squad Lists

would like some input of this build.

Whisper with

Veteran Instincts, Fire Control System, Advanced Clocking Device, Rebel Captive

Duchess

Expertise, Lightweight Frame, Adaptive Ailerons

Pure Sabacc

Expertise, Lightweight Frame, Adaptive Ailerons

This list has awesome firepower however it doesn't really want to joust but instead flank or arc dodge, and I'd say expertise is fine on Duchess but that is an overloaded pure Sabac if over I saw one, unless flown carefully a couple of TLT or even basic firepower shots will tear him down maybe even before he fires, mynpiint is that he is essentially manned ordnance, the enemy has to be careful of him however he is super glassy and fragile (at least in my meta).

Also none of these ships really want to be shot at (other than the cloaked phantom) and as such the opponent will probably just commit to killing Sabac. You can use this as Duchess is an excellent arc dodger (and this build is pretty awesome) but Sabac needs some polishing. Any other EPT you prefer for him? Or just try to flank and tun like hell to catch the enemy out and let the aces go to work. Without changing the ships or pilot that's my main pithy of contention and this is an awesome list.

For the eternal empire, best of luck ;)

I played one game with this build and it was a slaughter. how ever I did lose Pure Sabac but that wasn't till turn 3. I might expertise to Predator. And try that build

Good to hear, these guys can decimate any lower health aces and even some beefier large base ships in one or two turn.

My main qualm was survivability but if you can flank and arc degree well enough than three evade should hold you pretty well. Predator sounds like a good call, keep working on the list, polish it up and learn how to fly it against any opponent or tune it to your play style. It's pretty solid for what it does but since it consists of only high health aces it will have some hard counters in ordnance or some turrets. Just learn how to fly against those ordnance lists and you'll be set, maybe add some cards that specifically counter those if you can.

solid list :)

I had a similar idea recently, even did a post about it here :) .

I tweaked it a little bit, from my original idea and it's currently like this:

"Whisper" - Veteran Instincts, Fire-Control System, Gunner and Adv. Cloaking Device

"Pure Sabacc" - Expertise, Lightweight Frame, Adaptive Ailerons

"Duchess" - Veteran Instincts, Lightweight Frame, Adaptive Ailerons

I only have one game yet and was a loss, against Poe/Rey. Some positioning mistakes on my part meant my endgame was Sabacc vs Poe and that didn't go so well.

With a good deal of PS9s on my local meta, a PS10 Duchess comes in handy. Whisper's got a couple of nice crew choices. Between RebCaptive, Gunner or Kallus, they're good choice overall I think. With Sabacc, Expertise does draw attention and paints a target on his back, but on the other hand, he's already a priority (usually) as people want to shut down the ability asap. On the other hand, Predator (for the mods that are so badly needed on the strikers), VI (PS8 is a good place to be, although maybe not as good as it used to be...) or even Trick Shot.

Trick shot is free, but not ideal for a striker. Because of the way lightweight frame works, a striker generally can't claim 'cover' for an obstacle effectively (because the moment you get a bonus die for cover, your bonus die for lightweight frame goes away).

If you want to consider Pure Sabacc to be a guided missile with a "kick me" sign stapled to the ailerons, Crack Shot isn't a bad plan. He's probably only going to get one shot before he either gets damaged enough to void his pilot ability or killed outright, you might as well make it hurt as much as possible. Veteran Instincts is nice, but it depends whether PS8 is "enough", and with bloody Dengar and Fenn Rau being in half the squads I see.....it's not.

Expertise does let him evade every turn, but evade's not that much better than focus. On the other, other hand, I'm not sure what else you could spend the 3 points on, so Expertise might as well stay...
