TIE/LN or TIE/FO

By Princess LeidAnEgg, in X-Wing

Which is better? The TIE/LN expansion pack or the TIE/FO (Typho) pack? I have one core set FO, but no other Fighters.

To win? TIE/FO. Why? Omega Leader; the best 26 point ship (with upgrades tailor made for it that comes in the blister) in the game even if it is an Imperial chassis.

TIE/LN gets you Howlrunner, the best swarm support tool in the game.

TIE/FO pack gets you Omega Leader, one of the best cheap aces and endgame tools in the game. Plus, you get Juke and Comm Relay, two very strong upgrades that work perfectly on Omega Leader.

So, if you want to build a swarm, get the TIE/LN. If you want to fly aces, get the TIE/FO.

Me opinion the FO is a beterrible choice. I feel the dial is what make the difference and as clanofwolves just said omega leader is really nice

Not Omega Ace from TFA Core? Combined with PTL and an Upsilon, it's very, VERY powerful.

Personally, I prefer the FO for the tech and shield.

TIE/FO=Typho

if you have one Core Set FO, then Tie/FO easily

Comm RElay + Juke Omega Leader is anincredible ship, and the box always gets you the very decent Zeta Leader base to use with your other FO

very decent with Wired and weapons guidance

Omega Ace is definitely fun for those turns where everything comes together and you land three crits. However, he performs poorly against foes with lots of green dice and green tokens because he only rolls 2 or 3 dice. Omega Leader by contrast can chip away at even a turtled ace while also using his ability defensively to stay alive. Omega Leader wins a lot of 1v1 end game match up against higher point value ships, which is a value Omega Ace can't match.

Question for his ability: is adding results modifying?

Adding specific results is modifying. (Rulebook.)

Rolling more, fewer, or extra dice is not. Neither is canceling.

Yes, it is. Therefore Omega Leader's ability negates spending Evade tokens (because they add a result) as well as stuff like Latts Razzi crew.

p.13 of the Blue core "Rules Reference"

The TIE/fo pack is one of the only expansions in the game where the ideal upgrades are all included with the ship. Almost every other pilot in the game typically wants upgrades that require another expansion, but FOs are perfect with just Comm Relay (and Juke, if they have an EPT slot). It's the best value buy in the game.

If you have the Blue Core to begin with, I'd say carry on with the TIE/fo. As previously mentioned, Omega Leader is a tough nut and also two of my favorite FO pilots are in the expansion as well:

Zeta Leader, "When attacking, if you are not stressed, you may receive 1 stress token to roll 1 additional attack die."

and

Epsilon Ace, "While you do not have any Damage cards, treat your pilot skill value as '12.' "

The TIE/fo is a great ship.

After that, I'd try a TIE/sf, TIE Adv. Protoype and/or even a TIE Striker.

To be honest, I like flying TIEs of all stripes. They are fun ships. And if you're skilled enough, when you win, it is extra satisfying.

A better question is: TIE/FO or TIE/SF? I have an SF and two TFA FOs.

Lets put it this way, I only ever buy one of each expansion. The TIE/SF, I am considering getting another.

As I am fan of card proxies, TIE/sf + TIE/sk + TIE/ph, but that is me and my proxy heart which only buys cards when I need them for a tournament. With 2 TIE/FO in the box, I really was not a fan of buying a third one, just to be able to use ONE. ;-)

I'd aks if you have a spcific list in mind, if you can spring for the point than Omega Leader is the way to go as an excellent pocket ace. If you don't have those free points than howlrunner works wonders in swarms or multiple ship lists.

also SF for the win out of all three, I love me some Backdraft + collision detector + expertise + sensor cluster + lightweight frame + title. The shop can take quite a beating and with constant defence and offence mods he can be quite the beefy little ship

alternatively for something in th middle of FO and LN I'd go for a striker, they can be excellent flankers, arcdodgers or manned missiles (Sabac)
