More friends, less space

By NilsTillander, in X-Wing

Hei guys!

So my friends and I don't really have much space to play (and no FGS around, whatever the acronym means), so when we have a game night, we play 2vs2 (or even 3vs3) on a 80*80cm table, usually at 100pt per player. It gets messy and it is completely useless to play arc dodgers (when you have 15-20 ships on the board, there is nowhere to hide).

My question is, considering that this is the format we intend to play (instead of HotAC or something that would make more sense given the limitations), what kind of list would you bring to such tables?

TIE swarm, because **** everyone :D

new light syck swarm would work as good!!

8 sycks, better dial (1 banks baby!) and a 4 point bid!! lol

I was thinking HotAC was the answer.

I know, but we don't quite manage to have the same group every time, and it's easier to just do skirmish for us (also, Tequila is always involved :P )

HotAC is ALWAYS the answer!! ALWAYS I TELL YOU!!!!

I'm gonna go now and wait for the e-numbers and sugar to leave my system.

That's actually not a problem. HotAC can handle different player ship levels.

you could equally do something as obnoxious as this

^this. Our friendly local gaming store (fgs, flgs) has regular hotac sessions with drop in and drop outs.

We allow the pilots to persist, which adds a whole new dimension to the strategy and adds to the "rag tag rebel" thermatics. As mentioned, hotac has a system to handle scaling the ai threat to a mix of new and experienced players, although some mixes tend to be a bit more brutal than others.

Instead of standard 100/6 pitched battles play 75/4, maybe 80/4. (Points/Obstacles).

ooh 30 pnt ace teams or free for all is good as well. Helps develop tactics you may never have thought of solo.

in seriousness to the thread though, a 3 amigo's list sounds smart.

3 solid high ps aces or 2+support. stick em together, point at one target till it's dead and point at the next one.

I've been trying that, but when you have 5 X-wing, 2 A-wings, 1 Z95, 1 ARC170, YT1300 and YT2400 rushing at you, aces tend to survive at most one round...

quad storms with cluster missiles, accuracy correctors, and guidance chips should put the pressure on then.

Edit: with title ofc

triple wardens with cluster mines and extra munitions (with sabine somewhere)

don't even bother shooting, just drop loads and loads of bombs all over the table!!

With the board so crowded, Proton Bombs seem devilishly good.

And before someone posts that blasted meme, yes: you can bring both bombs and adjust your squad so it fits.

A few moths ago we all put or Lambdas in one squad on a pint night. It is weird and quite the squad if they run in an offset conga-ish kinda formation; weird dice chunking, tanky fun!

Easiest would be to reduce everyone's points. You could also implement other house rules to limit ship numbers or sizes, like 3 ships max, 1 large ship max, etc.

As far as what you should bring, I'd think any tanky ship with a turret would be ideal.

Cluster mines are also pretty good, or really any bomb. Seismic torps might be sweet too. Ion torps, assault missiles, or anything with splash effects or damage would probably work great.
