The alt art promo cards are neat. However, without the die, they are not much more than cube decorations for work. What I would love to see is the creation of promo packs in the same form as normal boosters. Each pack having alt art/full art versions of three commons, an uncommon and one rare/legendary w/ die. The card pool could be select cards from each of the previous block sets. The promo packs would be the top prize(s) in a tournament kit with the current no-die promos used for the participation prizes. They could even deliver them to the events with unicorn ponies too.
Promo Packs
I doubt this will ever happen. Making alt artwork cards is CHEAP and I believe is handled in house. Making dice is comparatively expensive. What would really be better is to just give out alt artwork cards for commons and uncommons only. More people would be able to use them.
Yeah, I think the better bet is to just stop making promos of cards people can't use without already having it, and focus more on regularly used Uncommons and Commons.
From a purely business perspective, it does make more sense to make alt arts for rarer cards - it incentives people to buy more product. So I can understand why they would do it, and I don't neccasarily think it's 'wrong'.
The real problem is what can be considered "marked cards." If the alt-art cards are even slightly different in texture, color, etc., using them in your deck can be considered cheating. That's why character cards make good alt-art cards, because there's no way to cheat using them. The same problem is present in many games - in X-Wing for example, if they give out alt-art pilot cards for a ship you don't own, they're worthless to you. I think it would be nice if the promo cards were useful as stand-alones, but I think the characters are the most interesting cards as well as the ones least likely to be considered cheating. Maybe they could do alt-art for battlefields as well, because a different-backed battlefield wouldn't count as a marked card.
Chewbacca needs a alt art card, yesterday. Please, for the sake of all that is good in this world give Chewbacca a card art like Bowcaster. I beg of you...

Seconded. Also, please Asmodee, let that be my avatar photo!

Meh, sleeves are a thing. Very very few people, at least tournament going people (which is the only situation in which marked cards 'cheating' is realistically a concern), don't use sleeves. As such, promos of uncommons or commons that get high use will allow them to inject extra product into circulation when needed (ie Electroshock), versus a card that is dead to everyone who doesn't have the die, and usable only for the 'neatness' factor to everyone else (since they already have it). All of that being said, FFG will do whatever they think will help the game grow and be more successful (aka sell), and that's their right.
Replace one card in every booster box with its alt-art equivalent. Just to give the completionists apoplexy.
If the game lasts long enough, we might conceivably see a 'Masters' set where every card is an alt-art from the past. It being its own set would also justify the production of new, alt-art dice. I wouldn't expect anything like for many years, though.
R2D2 Electroshock, best promo ever.
