Both heroes are defeated at the same time?

By mwewth, in Runewars

If there are only two heros in an area, they duel and both heroes are defeated at the same time. Then who is the victorious hero?

I think the attacker wins because he resolves the icon first. But what about the Reward cards?

The rule says the victorious hero assign all Reward cards, but the area now has no heroes.

So the Reward cards are discarded? The rule doesn't seem to mention about this condition. Anyone knows?

Check page 28 of the rule book, you use the defeated hero markers, and rush whatever heroes are left to claim the loot. :D

Page 28 of the rule book says, "If a hero is defeated at any other time."

Doesn't it mean exclusive of being defeated in a duel?

I suppose both heroes are defeated in a duel so the defeated hero marker not used.

Just read it again and I see what you mean with that line. Perhaps it refers to any other time where there isn’t a victor to claim the cards? A double knock out may count as that.

Other than that interpretation, I’m at a loss. :)

the solution is clear. If both heroes die, you put out two defeated hero markers, and the hex as a nice little treasure trove for whoever can get their first.

In practice, though, I don't see why you couldn't just combine the rewards card for the two dead heroes and use ONE defeated hero marker; whoever gets there first will get them all anyway, and neither player can look at them prior to then.

Ya, used one defeated hero marker as well when this happened in a game.

true, but having TWO defeated hero markers just looks cooler, and reminds everyone of the epic duel that occurred... sort of like a memorial.

Note that it's not whoever gets there first that gets the rewards from defeated hero markers. It is whoever has a hero there on his turn and claims them first. You can't actually pick up rewards from defeated hero markers during the quest phase.

Good point, you have to wait until your turn.

This just in! No!

Q: There are conflicting statements in the rulebook about collecting reward cards from defeated hero markers. The first time it is mentioned on page 5 it says that you collect them when the hero enters the area. The other time it is mentioned on page 28, it says that you collect them when a hero is present on the controller's turn (which rules out during the quest phase because that is part of no player's turn).

Is it the intent that you are not allowed to pick up rewards from a defeated hero marker during the quest phase?

A: A player may pick up reward cards from a defeated hero when the hero enters the area during the quest phase OR at any point during the player's turn.

Good to know, I'll add that to my List-O-Rulings :)

That is both true and funny!
