Card exchange program post 3.2.1

By Tabulazero, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

FAQ 3.2.1 represent a significant modification of some very popular cards. We are beyond the simple rule clarification here.

Given the size and scope of the departure that 3.2.1 introduced, has FFG thought to implement a card exchange program in which you could trade in your old cards and get the new version with the correct text ?

As a customer, I would like my cards to reflect the latest version of the rules rather than have to rely on a printed F.A.Q.

I am not advocating for a systemic exchange program every time a F.A.Q. gets printed but in the case of 3.2.1 the changes are so profound that I think it should be considered in this case.

Q: Do they do this for X-wing, a much older and more popular game, with waaay more errata?

A: No.

Yes but I am a man of taste since I play Armada. Don't I deserve a special treatment ?

Good point!

You do!!!

The only game where they've provided heavily errata'd cards was in Imperial Assault, and they were given as Tournament Prizes.

They were equal parts lauded and panned for doing so:

(It was great to have them, but I have to go to a Tournament for them? Lame!)

So I don't see them doing them anywhere else. If we're lucky, then updated versions will be in reprinted versions of the expansions from this point forward - but with everything just reprinted, that could take an infinitely long time.

Dumb question but how will this Work in tournament play ?

are we allowed to print and sleeve the new version of the cards ?

if yes, does this mean that proxies are now allowed in competitive play ?

just asking, you know...

Probably not. In X-Wing at least you're expected to have an original copy of the card and a print out/digital copy of the FAQ to hand if needed. I'd assume it'll be the same for Armada.

(For any event above a Store Championships:)

You are required to have an Original Copy of the Card. This never changes.

You are expected to be familiar with the FAQ, in essence "remembering". Weather you are using the Card or not, you are expected to be familiar with it.

It is the TO's Job to have a Copy of the FAQ and Rules on Hand, effectively "Enforcing" you to "Remember".

Proxies are not allowed.

Rather, they are kind-of-allowed, but the moment someone questions your Proxy, you must replace it with an original FFG Component.

That is the difference between "non essential" components and not. Cards are considered 'essential'...

Which is why if one is Damaged while you are at a tournament, there is a specific case ruling for a TO to give you a "Temporary Replacement" - but that must come from a TO, you can't just mock it up yourself.

The worst part is the faq is not available in other languages. No chance of printing a sticker without extra work.

My intent is to print the new cards, and sleeve it in front of the old one.

Alternately, if I have sufficient dupes, I might print stickers of just the text box, and apply them to the original cards. What irks me the most is that TRC was just an alt-art prize. Hate to ruin the art.

I wouldn't miss an art that remind me every time I see it that my Raider cannot equip that upgrade really. <_< :D

Depending on your community and as long as it is in front of the actual card, most would probably be fine with it, tell them and the TO before you play.

I own some 40 % of the Armada stuff in our community, with one other guy owning 50% of it. Everyone will be fine with it.

This is an easy nut to crack in my opinion...

Hand out new copies of the card for official tournaments... casual players can use printed replacement cards.

Done...

NO ONE... should be charged for errata edited cards, EVER.

Basically, not having the up-to-date cards is seriously scratching my "completist" itch.

I have an slight OCD on having my game "complete".

It bugs me too. I'm going to have to buy another Imp 1 Fighter pack and a Gladiator whenever new editions come out if I can make sure they're the new ones. I will not be buying 4 more MC30s just for new TRCs though.

I think they should sell an update pack for all changed cards (for a reasonable price). Its very easy to forget changes if they haven't been used for a while.

For example, I recently had a game where I was second player and had Most Wanted (an objective that's not been used in our meta for a while). My opponent made a comment that it was a bad choice given how many squadrons I had - I had to remind him that it only applied to ships.

Its so painful that they release promo cards for Riekkan, gr75 and TRCs.

The national kits have rhymer. Not sure if those were printed pre 3.2.1 either
