Twin Troopers: Exploring the Rebel Tool Box with Jyn Odan
Very nice writeup! I think the biggest problem with Jyn is that her Hair Trigger can be played around so well. Maybe Marksman can be used to help when opponent uses their figures to block LoS to each other?
Solid! I always wanted to run a rebel smugglers list and felt it lacking and activation or two. Hera definitely fills that void. I'll have to give that deck a roll. We just had a rebel group win our recent store championship (13 players) and jokes were made like "I thought the rebels couldn't be competitive any more." Analysis like yours puts those jests to rest haha!
Luke and Ben aren't Smugglers!
I've found a list I really like to play and have had some great (surprising) success with
But instead of Luke and Obi wan (which may be a bit more competitive, I used Han and some droids
12 Han usually with Smuggler's Run 1
4 Hera 6 Lando 3 Gideon (Diplomatic Mission 1)
2 C3PO 5 Jyn 4 eAllied Smuggler 2 Rebel High Command
--------
Cheat to win / element of Suprise / Heart of Freedom / I make my own Luck
Mitigate / Negation / On the Lam / Planning / Run for Cover
Smuggled Supplies / Stimulants / Strength in Numbers
Take the Initiative / Tools for the Job / Toxic Dart
Jyn can be the MVP if she can stay next to c-3PO she can weather some hits and move around as needed to position for her Hair Trigger. She is good at stunning and removing wounded figures. This definately very card reliant, hence the RHC. The smuggler's Run is actually more of a joke and could be replaced with another activation as well as the eAllied smuggler. I really feel I'm one smuggler away from making this real. I wish I could sneak in Vinto or someone like that for this list.

Is the full command card list anywhere to be seen?
"The calcification of and subsequent breaking of a meta is part of any collectible game."
Lines like this make my heart sing :-). Great write up!

I've updated the article to include the Command deck. Thanks for reading!

Thanks, I'm new to the game and enjoy the articles
Super write up! Goes to show what can be achieved with well thought out strategy and list building.

I think the majority of those jests were made in reference to worlds and before the last wave came out. Any time you release new figures the meta gets turned upside down, Hera and Chopper bring a lot of utility to the Rebels list that was missing before. Both are great additions.
Empire is the hurting dog right now.
I had kind of pushed Jyn to the non-usable figure in my mind. Thanks for pointing out that she's not actually that awful.
Her surge skills are among the best in the game. Focused Jyn is a figure to be reckoned with. Keeping her somewhat close to Hera is also going to pay dividends with the surge from Call the Shots.
So my last little store kit tournament someone was running a bit of a smugglers box, Jyn is super annoying to deal with. Especially with C-3P0 stuck to her. Keeping her within range to take advantage of Hair Trigger but not to close to make her vulnerable is the balancing act though. Honestly if they wanted to push her worth up to her point level, give her 2 built in accuracy. Would make a world of difference for her. Pair her with Hera and she can surge for +4 accuracy and +2 damage, plus the accuracy from her green die, makes her a guarantee to hit from 6, and then add in the damage/potential extra surge from her roll.
Now what I did find though is that if you do pair her up to try and add more blocks from Cunning, you will severely limit her utility by negating the value of Nimble. So you either run away leaving C3P0 exposed and losing his benefit (plus the benefit of anyone else you paired her around), or you just don't take advantage of the ability to try and keep stacking defense. I think honestly she is better played as a lone wolf, like a Greedo, get in as much damage as she can before she bites it. Play aggressive but sneaky.
I would love to see more of the core box heroes relevant in todays skirmish. I always felt Gaarkhan could be so useful in the right situation, I hope HoTE brings in some good wookie/guardian/brawlers cards.
Edited by FrogTriggerHan, 3PO & Jyn together gets silly if you can keep 3PO close. With Hera and a card, you can deal out serious damage, get +2 attacks and stay alive like crazy. You'll need a bit of luck though, but the command cards really can keep this going for a couple of turns
I tried to run a Cunning list with Jyn/Han/Nexu trying to stay near C3P0 for the cunning bonus. 1 guy is hard enough to try to hover near C3P0. 3+ was impossible.

Nexu has a much harder time getting the bonus evade from Distracting anyways since the opponent can just target a different square the Next occupies.
Thanks for writing these articles dietz057, they've been very helpful in helping me enter into skirmish (I've mostly been playing campaign, which is also a lot of fun).
I'll be sure to try out this list, as I've been having fun with Rebel Alliance so far and want to try out some different things to help me figure out my playstyle.

I'd never even try the Nexu, With some maps, Han and Jyn isn't too bad (thinking Anchorhead Bar and ISB) You normally want to move up, take your shot and then pull back if you can the first couple rounds anyway.

Onar in your group also?
I think this was called Smugglers Box once upon a time? The most effective use I saw of this was to play it like they did in 300, have your shield wall and advance slowly to start using the range of your attacks, then when the time is right bust out and go offensive. If you can, end up in a defensive position but most likely at this point the defensive bonuses are going to be more work than they are worth. Tricky to pull off, but I did watch someone do it quite effectively at a tournament in the early days.
With a potential fix to Han coming this might be more viable after HoTE!
