Question for the casters

Hi casters, I love what you guys produce and would like to have a crack at it myself soon enough, I've got the hardware down pat so I'm just thinking about software.

Currently I have zero skills in video manipulation so I'm not super concerned about editing etc more just thinking what is a good simple software tool for capturing video? All it would really need is the ability to drop the lists in maybe at the beginning somehow?

I don't stream because it ended up being more trouble than it's worth really, my little laptop at home just can't cope with running it. I've been asked a few times about what equipment I use for my YouTube vids though and happy to share that, one of my frustrations when I started is that people didn't seem to want to share their setups as if it was some sort of trade secret!

I use a Sony HDR-CW405 and I am utterly useless with camera's and editing so I just have it setup on intelligent auto. I elevate it with a cheap tripod and angle it down. I can never decide what's best and keep changing my mind between getting as close as possible to the map so people can see what's going on, or keeping a dice tray in view so it's easier to see the rolls.

I love the Luke Pant video's but personally I just don't have that sort of time to edit the video's, so I generally top and tail the video's with an intro/outro using Wondershare Filmora (cost me about £30, I'm sure lots of other programs would do similar) then slap them online. I've tried doing a more extensive job but it ended up with a 3 week break with no video's uploaded as I enjoy playing, not video editing!

You can drop the lists in easy enough with Filmora and then save your video as a template so that all you need to do then is edit the various text boxes.

It takes me around 30-45 minutes per video to add the video into my template, amend the title and both lists, then start the process of creating the video.

The computer then does it's work and it'll take 2-3 hours most of the time to create the video, after which you'll need to upload to YouTube or similar and add descriptions, tags etc. which normally takes about another 15-20 minutes.

Overall I'd say allow around an hour of "work" per video, then a few hours for processing and uploading.

End result of my stuff at least is here if you're interested in having a look: https://www.youtube.com/c/StarwarsStreaming

All the best with it and look forward to seeing your end product beefcake.

Yeah I don't livestream either, nor have any plans to anytime soon. Maybe one day.

I record our matches using my old Nokia Lumia 1020 phone until I can fit an upgrade into my budget. I record the dice with another old Nokia smartphone and I record the audio using my Google Pixel lol. Though I have a microphone coming in the mail that should improve audio quality. I have both of my "cameras" set up on cheap tripods.

I do the video editing in Adobe Premiere. Had to watch a lot of youtube tutorials to learn how to do what I need for the videos. Lately each video has been taking me probably between 5 and 8 hours. Hard to say since I don't actually keep track of time officially when working on those. That's not counting the 28 freaking hours it takes my computer to then render each video after I'm done editing. :P I need a new computer lol.

For live streaming I've heard a lot of people really like XSplit software. My old game store used to use it to stream X-Wing and it looked wonderful.
