Out of curiosity, can you gain more than 40 pts in competitive play? I can't remember off the top of my head. I had two opponents concede my first two games once I got up or killed their centerpiece figures. Would playing it out improve my score or strength of schedule?

The only thing that matters with SoS in IA is wins and losses.

Not got the tournament rules but think you count as scoring 40 points. 40 is the max either player can get.

I think you can score more than 40 but it will not affect SOS. At worlds they just had a slip of paper and you said who won and lost--no score.

I believe a forfeit technically goes down as 40-0.

I also want to know what the official tie-breakers are. My last store tourney, somebody went 3-0, the myself and another person went 2-1, but they beat me H2H so they got 2nd. I might have had more VP than them though.

This actually would have made a difference. I lost to the winner of our store championship and ended up 4th based on point spread.

Hmmm, that's not supposed to be how it works. X-Wing uses point spread (or so I hear), but IA does not. At all. The rules are on page 8 of the tournament regulations document.

On a side note, the store totally played it right to use the basic structure (4 rounds with no cut). Advanced structure is for Regionals and above.

@ryanjamal Great write up. I was running the Banatha list and had a great time playing you and everyone else for that matter. I would love to do that mission all over again now that I've learned a thing or two about my list!

Just to clarify a bit I was running IG w/FotK, Bantha w/Beast Tamer, Vinto, Greedo, Jawa, RCP, Black Market. I felt the need to roll a Bantha after seeing how well @pheaver did at worlds, and I really wanted to use the new and improved IG. Worked out till those stupid rangers showed up haha. Opening my door was a BAD choice, but I just really wanted Luke's 12pts. No such luck.

I also agree that it was a bit strange that @seef1033 pulled 3rd and I got 2nd. I can only guess that since we both went 3-1 and our only lose was to you, that that some how gave me the boost based on my other opponents. He is a good buddy of mine and I have no problem stealing his almost glory :-)

Was a fun tourney and congrats on showing us KCers how its done!

Hi Guys

wannabepudge beat me in the first round, and I finished 3-1. I expect that gave him a SOS boost to help him finish second.

Sure thing! My CC deck was pretty standard for a Luke Rangers list. Those hunter cards eat up most of your points.

Son of Skywalker (don't leave home without it!)
Assassinate
Heightened Reflexes
Tools for the Job
Call of the Vanguard (a must for elite rangers)
Negation (you pretty much have to have this because of Take Initiative)
Heart of Freedom (I run this in every Rebel list; it's so good!)

After that, I'm left with my zero-cost cards, which aren't too surprising either:

Planning
Take Initiative
Urgency
Devotion (helps to draw SoS)
Positioning Advantage
Mitigate
On a Mission

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the help. Going to run this list as a new player with my son. I see there are only 14 cards? Which one is missing :) ?

i do not have the following cards:

Assassinate
Tools for the job
Negation

Are these a must? or can you recommend replacements?

Finally, I am using the Luke that came with the core set. Is this the correct one? If yes, do I need to buy the Luke to get the Positioning Advantage card?

Thanks in advance.

That's actually going to be Jedi Luke for 12 points. Assassination and Tools for the Job are both solid cards you'll be missing and Negation is pretty much an auto include in every list. But without getting those two I'd swap them for New Order and Inspiring Speech maybe. Replacements for Negation could be Tough Luck, Hit and Run or Jump Jets.

Oops, the other was Element of Surprise, which you should definitely include. And yeah, Assassinate and Tools for the Job sort of make this list as strong as it is. It's built on command card draw and using the Rangers to take out units quickly and those Hunter cards are key. When you can, get a copy of Jabba's Realm. List building for skirmish sort of runs through that box for all factions nowadays (and I think all the figures in there are a lot of fun--and plus there's the Rancor!!!). And yes I was using Jedi Luke. Negation is really good, but if you're just starting out I don't think it's worth buying Hoth just to get it. Maybe a local bought two copies of Hoth and you could get that card for cheap off them. As for now, if you have New Orders it's awesome, but if not just filter in some other good cards (Stealth Tactics, Jump Jets, maybe parting blow for Jedi Luke...).

Happy gaming!

Assassinate comes in the Jabba the Hutt villain pack and is probably worth getting the pack. Getting the extra 3 damage to finish off a figure is gold

if you don't want to drop the $60 for Jabba's Realm, you could use Wild Attack (Bossk villain pack) as a cheaper substitute. Just make sure that you have element of surprise or Heightened Reflexes when you play it. I did that for a while with a similar group and had good results.

I think he has Assassinate but his son is using it in his list. He mentions it in another thread. Same thing with Tools for the Job.

Gotcha. Main point is that for a while, I substituted Wild Attack when I didn't have an available tools for the job. Still get to add a red dice, but you just want to make sure you have a way to negate the white dice added from the card.

Yup. Son takes everything...but i havent seen this excited in a while and the game doesnt plug into the wall so i am supporting it!!

What else do we need to double up on? Dice? anything else?

You could grab an extra dice set if you wanted or I'm sure your opponents would share with you if not. I'd maybe look into a small Plano box? I have one that I take to tournaments to hold all the tokens and such you might need. It'll save you from lugging around a bunch of big boxes with extra stuff you won't even touch.

Dice are handy for sure. Depending on if the venue would allow it, i've printed off some maps for play. See the thread below for details on that. They're handy if you need a second copy of a map or if you don't want to put tiles together/invest in the official maps.

That should come in the Jedi Luke pack

Thanks for all of the help guys
