I'm fine on either site. As long as everything is functional, I don't really care where we play.
PbP Concept

i'd be willing if everyone else is onboard. I have an account there but that is literally all I've done. I've read a few of the forums there but am not that familiar with the place.
Let's put it towards a vote. All in favor or opposed?

We voting on our group resource, or which site to play on?

Both?
Heh, ok then.
I vote Mentor for our resource.
As to which website, I truly don't have a preference either way.
I am cool with the Mentor for our resource.
As for website, either is fine with me as well, as I've never used either.
I can behind a mentor. And, ummm, I will vote for gamersplane. Just because it looks nice and slick.

.....you can...what...behind a mentor? You dirty dirty Arrow you!

I plead innocence and faulty grammar!
+1 for Mentor
+1 for staying here (I'm happy to move, mind you, but I check these forums fairly frequently, so it's one fewer place I have to visit, and it allows our fellow forum-goers to lurk and watch what we do)
By the way, @Blackbird888 , I've geared up. I stayed within the parameters you gave us, but I did take some attachments for my weapons. I took the public address system as my "free" expensive piece of gear. Please let me know if anything I've done is not allowed. I'm also open to the idea of dropping one of the two weapons. I'm almost at max encumbrance, so I'm not sure it's worth holding on to the second weapon simply because it has the Cortosis quality, especially if we may need to get gear down the road. Again: link to my character .
So, @SavageBob is against, @SebastianArrow is for, @Magnus Arcanus and @KungFuFerret are neutral.
My preference would be to remain here. I am sensitive to the clutter that too many PbPs cause on the forums, but I can predict that adding another site I need to check daily would have a detrimental effect on my posting rate.
However, that said, my opinion is hardly a strong one, so if we end up going with the other site, I won't grumble. Much .
My preference would also be to remain on this forum, whether here, or moved to the Beginner Game section. I don't require Absol's statistics, to know that a change in venue would probably effect my participation in the game, too.
Four for the mentor option, which is the majority.
Three for staying on this sight, one for trying Gamer's Plane, and two neutral. Unless @KungFuFerret and @Magnus Arcanus change their minds, that's the majority for staying.
Ah, cool beans. Stay we will.
So what does everybody want in a mentor?

I'll actually change my vote to "Stay" if for no other reason than I can access the forums from my work PC (when on "break" of course!)
Then it's decided.
So, the mentor? I can't promise they'll play too much of a part, but I could probably work them in a little.

considering the F&D book even mentions how they could be dead and only show up every now and then as a ghost, I'm not too worried about how often they might show up.
But yeah, I vote Mentor, as that gives me more wiggle room with my purchases
Yeah, as for who the mentor is, I have no strong feelings. I like the 5-point break on buying Force powers (from the Knight Level XP only, as I understand it).
I tweaked my character's backstory a bit to indicate that he's received some basic supplies and money from a resident of the city he's preaching in. This was mostly to account for why the character has some nice stuff, despite the fact that he's essentially homeless, but this person could easily be the mentor we all share.
Ok so, I've got my stats and stuff done, haven't bought gear yet (really hate that part). I've also got his Background.
Kamoa Vehe - Mirialan Male Age 27
Background
Kamoa spent most of his life on Mirial, as a protector and defender of his people. His skills in the Force, and fighting in general, lead him to several early successes in his profession. He was very proud of the markings he placed upon his face, stating these victories. However, when requested for a particular job as a bodyguard, things changed. His reputation as a young and talented fighter, and skilled at protecting others, found him standing before a mid-level politico of his people's government. The man said he needed Kamoa for a special job, protecting the young daughter of his life long friend. She was going on a trip to a neighboring city, as part of her religious studies. Kamoa readily accepted, eager for a chance to prove himself on a larger scale.
When he and the young Mirialan woman, Shilarian, traveled to the city, things were going well, until one night. While returning from a meeting with the local priesthood, the two of them were accosted by what appeared to be random thugs. Kamoa stepped in, only to find himself sorely outclassed by all of them. Soundly beaten, he could only lay there and watch, in horror, as they killed Shilarian in front of him. When he awoke, he was in a medical facility, recovering from his wounds, and Shilarian's father standing over him, a cold rage in his eyes. Nothing he could say was worse than how Kamoa felt, but he took the verbal abuse of the father, lost in his own grief. Her father swore he would never work on Mirial again, as a guard, and "suggested" that if Kamoa knew what was good for him, he would leave the planet as soon as he was healed. Kamoa agreed, only delaying long enough to mark his face with his failure to protect Shilarian, prominantly on his left cheekbone.
After that Kamoa traveled to many planets, finding random jobs to feed himself, and mostly wallowing in his grief, until one day when he heard a commotion down an alley. Shuffling down it, partially drunk, he came across another group of thugs, accosting a young couple. Seeing the shade of Shilarian in front of him, he became furious, and launched himself at the foes, showing them no mercy. Despite his drunken state, these punks were no match for him, and were quickly sent running. The young couple were overly grateful to him for his aid, and he felt a small crack in the stone of guilt inside his chest. He nodded his acceptaince of their thanks, and went back to the motel he was staying in. He took a long time, staring at himself in the mirror, his eyes on his markings as he relived his actions up to that point.
He realized then, that despite his past failure, he could still do some good, and that he owed it to Shilarian to do so. That to wallow in his own self-pity, was an affront to the life she lived, and the dreams she had of helping her people. He cleaned himself up then, and added a new marking on his cheek, adjacent to the one of his failure to Shilarian. The marking incorporated hers into it's design, and it spoke of change and redemption, rooted in the failure of his past.
Since then, Kamoa has been traveling, finding work as a bodyguard where he can, trying to find those who seem to genuinely need protection, but perhaps can't afford it. He lets the Will of the Force guide him where he is needed, wandering the galaxy, a planet at a time.
In his travels, he had time to think over the incident with Shilarian, and he suspects he was set up by his employer. That it was a political move, to cause Shilarian's father to drop out of the running for office, leaving his employer free to run unopposed. He has no evidence of this, but it is his driving motivation. He hopes to find help elsewhere, to uncover the truth of what happened, and return one day to see justice done.
Just need @Edgehawk 's character and we can move forward. Once I have all character links, I'll set up an OOC page.
http://swsheets.com/c/5vyzt110a-kamoa-vehe is my sheet. Again, don't have his gear up yet, but it will be pretty minimal. He might not be an Ascetic by Career, by he definitely is one by lifestyle.
@KungFuFerret , cool background! Maybe Kamoa has been doing some minor bodyguard work for our Mentor? Perhaps this is the same person who's been paying "alms" to support Zik (my character)? This might indicate that the mentor is someone who can spot Force sensitives and has an interest and cultivating them toward his or her own ends (positive or negative). Just trying to tie our stories together and figure out how we all know this Mentor.
What do others think? Is there some way the other characters might be tied to a sort of Force-talent-scout benefactor?
