PbP Concept

Thanks, glad you like it. As for him working for the Mentor, I'm certainly not opposed to the idea, but I will defer to the GM on if that is a viable connection. But I do like the idea of him sort of having an "agent" in the form of the Mentor, who points him to people who could use a strong arm.

I'll cast my vote for Mentor, as a party resource. Made some tentative changes, accordingly: http://swsheets.com/c/y5lkkoqbo-kestrel-kai--sa

Oh, right. So I think it's @Magnus Arcanus that hasn't posted a character? Unless I missed that one as well.

So, quick question GM, now that I'm looking through gear, and just remembered it. Some of my Martial Artist talents specify they only work when I'm "unarmed", but there are also Brawl weapons, such as brass knuckles. Now I get why things like that would be considered "armed" as the way you fight using knuckles or a punch dagger, etc, is different than if you have nothing in your hands. But what about the Shock Gloves? You still have free use of your hands, but the do allow a potential improvement to my unarmed attacks. And as someone who has done martial arts for years, wearing gloves doesn't really hinder you, especially thin ones like the shock gloves.

How do you want to rule that? Will I still be "unarmed" for the purposes of my talents? Or would that be considered having a weapon? I'm cool either way, I just want to have a definitive answer before I bother buying them. :D

Perhaps Kestrel's master on Arbooine knows our Mentor somehow, and sent Kestrel to Garuu to get further training from him or her.

(Again, not trying to mandate we do this; just brainstorming how we all know this Mentor so we can get to playing! :) )

I'm going with the ruling that I understood from the developer's interview. Iron Body and Precision Strike (Supreme) don't work with anything but bare limbs. Unarmed Parry works as long as you can have a free hand or limb that can block a weapon, even if you are wielding Brawl weapon.

Darn, given the gloves dont actually add any damage, and just give me a chance to trigger the stun effect, was hoping they would work. Ah well.

Well I did post these back on Wednesday:

Here is my character's back story:

Bralane, Bothan Aggressor:

An orphaned Bothan mostly self raised in the slums of Ord Mantell, she was taken in by a kindly Ithorian (Obreen) who became her 'teacher'. As Bralene grew up she knew she was different, and with help from Obreen, Bralene learned of her force sensitivity. However, unlike most examples of her species, Bralene prefer overt and decisive action in the face of oppression and tyranny and she railed against the crime lords and swoop gangs that ruled the ghettos of Ord Mantell.

During an expedition through the infamous Ord Mantell ship graveyards, Obreen and Bralene stumbled upon an old Jedi cruiser. While most of the ship was useless and picked over by Jawa scavengers, Bralene found a sturdy metal staff, made of an curious alloy. Highly resistance to corrosion and most forms of energy, Bralene took this well balanced weapon for her own. The pair also found a few Jedi relics that had some very rudimentary knowledge of the Force and Force using traditions, but nothing that would come close to an actual holicron.

For several years Obreen patiently taught Bralene, trying mightily to quell the recklessness and defiance the young Bothan displayed. On more than one occasion Bralene found herself in a fight with gangsters, corrupt police, and other thugs that ‘patrolled’ the slums. Most of the time Bralene gave as good as she took.

Her life was turned upside down one fateful day when the Empire took a sudden interest in Obreen and her ‘student’. With a brutally savage attack against the ghetto that was remarkable for its heavy handed approach (even for the Empire), over seven square blocks of the ghetto was razed to the ground. Nominally a neutral system, the government of Ord Mantell looked the other way during this assault (with the promise of extremely generous loans from the Empire to help ‘rebuild’), even going so far as to barricade the ghetto to prevent escape. During this assault, Bralene managed to escape, but was separated from Obreen, who is presumed dead.

Not really understanding why, Bralene sensed she had to escape, as there was some malevolent entity scouring the planet for her. Sneaking her way past the barricades (which did include pulling out her staff and beating some police officers senseless), she was able charter passage off planet aboard a transport vessel called the Sunbeam Sentinel.

But if there is more I need to do, let me know. I've never ever played via PbP before, so there will be a bit of a learning curve. I do know the system quite well though.

Okay. Do you have a SWsheets.com account that you can build a character with? I think @Absol197 hasn't made one there as well.

I don't, but I will, and get something posted.

Perhaps, à la Obi-Wan, Obreen sent one final telepathic Force message to Bralane: "Go to Garuu... Find [the Mentor]..."

(Again, just brainstorming.)

I know, sorry sorry. My ability to goof off at work was more limited this week than usual, and SWSheets is something that I detest using on my phone. I'll try to get mine up tonight, and give you a link. With a detailed backstory! Then we can start trying to weave things together!

@KungFuFerret , cool background! Maybe Kamoa has been doing some minor bodyguard work for our Mentor? Perhaps this is the same person who's been paying "alms" to support Zik (my character)? This might indicate that the mentor is someone who can spot Force sensitives and has an interest and cultivating them toward his or her own ends (positive or negative). Just trying to tie our stories together and figure out how we all know this Mentor.

What do others think? Is there some way the other characters might be tied to a sort of Force-talent-scout benefactor?

Hmmmm. He probably gave Chadrick a few jobs to do just to keep an eye on a "hidden" padawan.

Made the OOC thread, here . I'll be using the Beginner Game sub-forum to host it, as to take some of the clutter off the main one.
