Core Set Poe Skill Question

By SCFeek, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I must be missing something.

What makes Poe's natural ability different than the standard focus rules?

POE: "While attacking or defending, if you have a focus token, you may change one of your {focus} results to a {hit} or {evade} result."

FOCUS RULE: "When attacking or defending, the ship may spend that token to change all of its {focus} results to {hit} results (on attack dice) or {evade} results (on defence dice)."

How are these different? I have checked the current FAQ and was unable to find a clarification or update. I would understand if Poe could change one die WITHOUT the focus token, but his ability clearly says a focus token is required to use.

Thanks,

Stephen

Poe: If you have a focus token, you may change one eye to a hit or evade.

Focus: If you have a focus token, you may spend the token to change all eyes to hits or evades.

Normal focus changes all results but gets rid of the token. Poe changes only one result, but he keeps the token and can do it again later in the round.

Poe gets to do it to every attack and defence while he has a focus token. Then he gets to spend that token on R5-P9 to regen a shield :)

That's what I was missing - Poe doesn't SPEND the token! He can use it during an attack to change one {focus} to a {hit} and then later in the round use the same token to change all {focus} results to {evade} tokens.

Thank for the help.

Or you can change only 1 focus result and keep the token to use his ability in other attacks. And do the same and spend that token to use r5p9

Or any other use for a focus token.

If you're using the core set, look at the Weapons Guidance card - you can spend a focus token to turn a [blank] to a [hit].

Which means Poe could turn a [focus] to a [hit] without spending the token, then spend the token to turn a [blank] to a hit as well.

Yup. Poe with Sensor Cluster, Autothrusters, and a focus token, literally can't roll less than 2 evades whilst out of arc of someone, if he's willign to spend his token.

Roll blanks, autothrusters/cluster. Blank/eye, Poecus/thrust. Eye/eye, spend the token. Evade/Eye, Poecus, Evade/Evade, fine anyway.

And even in arc, he has to roll double blanks to not dodge two.
