So, those cruise missiles...

/SFs like it as well because the s-loop gives them an unpredictable and difficult to block 3-speed move that can clear enough space to get range 2, and PA/FCS means they get a fully modified 4 die shot when they do.

That's gonna be an expensive bomber though - and one that's going to be subject to a LOT of focus fire.

Deathfire at 26pts? Doesn't sound so expensive. Focus fire really depends on what else is in the list with it, but yeah it's a possibility.

That's a fair point; their Segnor is speed 3 rather than the TIE/fo's speed 2.

Keeping back missiles as a 'second strike' weapon is a bit risky - as you've a fair chance of losing them rather than using them - but Quickdraw or similar can easily draw enough attention!

For Deathfire, yeah. I'd probably look at just a single cruise for him alongside EM and whichever 4 point action bomb you prefer - he's not that likely to be shooting beyond the first round, and unless you're bringing bombs, you might just as well have a generic.

Not so much keeping them back as having an option to use them even if you didn't get the opening TL or misjudged the range and hit 1 instead.

Yeah... that's the loadout. Cruise, Clusters, EM, Chips, 26pts.

Ah for some reason I took that to mean cluster MISSILES not cluster mines.

Sorry.

My big question before the spoil was will this be better than harpoon missiles, and it looks like a yes unless there is a big surprise.

Unless Harpoon is a Scum Only 2 point missile which not only does splash damage but also applies a tractor token. . .

Because you know, Scum . .

The other thing to factor in about prockets vs cruise is availability.

Prockets is a waste of points on any ship w/o 3 agi. That limits their use to ... what 4 ships? (Awing, TAP, TAdv, or nonx7 Defenders). And among those, sometimes Vader has it but usually its only Awings using it.
Cruise Missiles can work on any ship with a 4speed, which is almost every missile user out there . Kwing is the only one i can think of w/ a missile that doesnt have a 4fwd or 4k/5k, probably another slipping my mind atm but whatever. Point is its MUCH more available than prockets.

So yeah, their difficulty in getting off a maximum attack makes sense because dang near everyone can technically use it.

So on A-Wings... general consensus is Procket < Cruise missile?

On generics, yes. I might still put Procket on Jake Farrel.

Removing the staple is just too much of a pain.
