Ankaur Maro question

By Crabbok, in Runewars Miniatures Game

@maxam I see broken combos as a minor concern. To make them stick would likely take half of your list(35-40pts for the hero and 60-70pts for the unit) or more.

If you or anyone reading this can give me a broken combo that I can't find a way around i will concede. Until then I assert that faction upgrades on borrowed units(I.E. carrion lancers on spearmen via Ankuar) are entirely manageable.

I appreciate what you're saying Orcdruid, and I've got no doubt in your ability.

If there was a "broken combo" there would surely be ways to allow/mitigate for it, but then that becomes the focus of lists that don't field the broken combo, which becomes dull.

In truth, it doesn't even need to be a "broken combo" per se, merely compelling enough to become an auto-include which in itself has a negative impact on the game.

For example, if Leonx Riders with Combat Ingenuity was a good enough combo that just about every Waiqar force fields them, again, the game becomes dull.

As I said waaaay back earlier in the thread, this may just be my X-Wing ptsd talking.

Fully agree with that, I really dislike cookie cutter lists due to auto include combos

One way to look at it is to consider that a unit can belong to 2 armies : its original faction army (because spearmen are still Daqan units even when fielded in a Waiqar army) and also the army it is included in (because these same spearmen are currently in a Waiqar force). As a result, only neutral upgrades can be taken for these units

This is one of those things that isnt a problem right now but could easily become an issue in the distant future.

See JM5K in xwing. The combination of upgrade slots it has is unique, which allowed it to get an insane build that actually forced FFG to break their "We dont errata card text" motif to fix the problem. ALL of the cards that build was using did not come in the JM5K expansion, and none of them were considered powerful prior to that ship putting them all together.

Right now its fresh in the developers minds so it probably wouldnt happen, but say a couple years from now there could be a new Siege upgrade that on Reanimates would be good but not broken due to their dial, but the slight dial differences of the Spearmen would make it obscurely broken.

I agree units brought into a faction should be denied faction upgrades, both their normal army's and current, just to avoid any potential issues later.

@Vineheart01 @maxam

How many ways are the of removing upgrades in x-wing? Boba Fett

How many in runewars? Executioner, mistlands saboteur, accuracy and any dice manipulation that gets you there.

The last one is the best example because something like Fortuna's Dice can flip your blue/white dice to accuracy if something like a siege or figure upgrade is a threat. If not, it can be used to guarantee the best side for damage or whatever surge ability you might want to use.
