I do like the concept though.
Some of the names come from George and have ties to the character as noted above.
Others come from the EU and who knows what each author pulls from to make names. Being a fan of Timothy Zhan (what got me 'into' the star wars EU after he wrote the "Heir to the Empire" trilogy) I do know a little about how he names characters.
He has a tendency to pull old Hebraic, old English, old Scottish names and their meanings to associate with a characters personal traits.
aka Mara Jade. Mara means 'bitter' and Jade... well Jaded. Fits her character through Heir.
Thrawn in old English is 'twisted'.

This is probably why most of the Imperial pilots/soldiers are just letters and numbers.
I can imagine an Imperial officer looking at a tall slender dude and going "Thenn Skinni? I quit."

Chewbacca is a combination of the Russian words monster (chewdobeshye) and dog (sobaka)
Jaba is very close to the Russian word for toad (zhaba).
since they should by all rights be speaking a language with absolutely no connection to English, we are clearly just getting the translations. The translators are just being creative when the literal translation is "Toad the size of a house" or "Greedy dude" or "God's Gift who is Forever Alone and his Monster-Dog who travel the galaxy in the Antique Flying Thing."

As a Swedish citizen the IKEA names makes perfect sence. It is a mixture of Swedish names, places (towns), or discriptive words ("Snitsig", meaning something like "Elegance", is a set of pots). The names follow suit with the company name as IKEA is an abbreviation of Ingvar Kamprad (the founder), Elmtaryd (name of a farm stead where Ingvar grew up and the original address for the company) Agunnaryd (the village where the farm is situated).
I can understand the extra galactic feel of Swedish, especially with the special dots above some letters. Pernilla August (Shmi Skywalker) and Max von Sydow (Lor San Tekka) are Swedish actors in the Star Wars Saga. Galen (Galen Erso, the "mad" scientist, and Galen Marek, Darth Vader's legend appentice) is Swedish for "mad".
Some US companies have needed to rename products in Asia due to language issues. Coca Cola tried to make a Chinese word that sounded like the name - it translated into something like "bite the wax mosquito."
We bought a kid's chair called a "Tripp Trapp" from a scandanvian company. Great product - horrible name for English speaking areas as most parents do not seek to trip or trap their children, let alone trap them through tripping!
