Perhaps this is just my thing, but some of the names bug me.
The one that jumps out to me most is Talonbane Cobra. What the heck is that? You are a cobra that be-taloned raptors should fear? Are there Earth cobras in cannon? It sounds like the stage name a 10-year-old would come up with when projecting his/her furture heavy metal stardom!

It makes more sense if we assume Talonbane is a place IMO.

I agree that it "Talonbane Cobra" is a rather silly name. That said, in my head canon, there have been several "Talonbane Cobra"s and the name is like the "Dread Pirate Roberts" from The Princess Bride. It is passed from one hot shot pirate pilot to the next, when they get to old or decide to quite pirating.
We are talking about the series with Greedo, who is greedy. Solo, who is a lone wolf who protects his own interests. Savage Oppress, who savagely oppresses republic supporters. Skywalker, who is an amazing pilot AND SO ON.
The Cobra which is a bane of all talons that try to go after it. Not be-taloned. Talon-bane.
Things with talons hunt snakes. That Cobra is the bane of things with talons. He must enjoy a meal of raptors often.

...sorry was watching some of those Dragon Ball Super Abridged clips recently. Was the response I had in my head as soon as I read the title.
But yeah there are some weird names but remember, it is a world of fiction and they can do whatever they want.

What bugs me about Talonbane Cobra is that he/she is just a random boss screen from a video game.
If video games are given more credence than Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, I really want Donkey Kong and Bowser to show up in this game. At least I give a flying fish about who those guys are!

What always bothers me is droid designations. R2-D2 is an R2 unit. Are you gonna tell me there are only 1,296 R2 units in the galaxy?

There are astromechs with 3-character suffixes. R4-B11 is one in the game. R2-BHD is in the Star Wars Databank.

Got explained in an Q&A in the Star Wars Insider.
R2-D2 and so on are just a part of the whole designation. Most likely the first digits because nobody wants to call them by their full designation which is most likely more then 9 digits long.
