X-Wing v Z-95 Headhunter

By T9FURY, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi there, I just started playing X-Wing and in the process of making some squad lists after my initial purchases. I was looking at the stats for the X-Wing and Z-95 Headhunter, they have exactly the same stats with the lowest rank pilots, the only difference is the Z-95 is a whole lot cheaper in points. So would the only advantage for fielding the Z-95 be that you can field more ships? Obviously I am not taking into account any upgrades, this is base ship for ship.

The two ships are quite different. X wings have 3 attack dice while a Z95 has only 2. Also the x wing has one more hull point compared to the Z.

Also the x wing can take torpedoes while the Z can not. But the Z95 can take missiles while the x wing does not have that option. Outside of those differences the dials for both ships are quite similar.

There was a time in the game where the 24pts you would spend on 2x z-95 was always better than 22pts on a rookie x-wing with a droid. Both ships are pretty obsolete in the game today; this is one of the major complaints of players who started Wave 1-3.

It's also of note that you can get a z with a hull and concussion missile for 2 points cheaper or go with concussion and guidance chips for 16 and 1 less hull at 5pts cheaper. Both pretty well give you an xwing on the cheap and show just how bad a position the game's namesake currently holds.

Take 1 or the other to fill a similar role in your list: a 1 and done that you might stretch an extra round of fire out of.
