Measuring range to/from huge ships

By Stoneface, in X-Wing Rules Questions

This question came up last night regarding measuring range to a huge ship from a huge ship. Is the cardboard used to determine range, after checking for arc and centerline interference?

Under the section on"Targeting" it says, "The range of the attack is determined by the line measured from the closest point on the attacking ship to the closest point of the chosen section that is inside the attacking ship's firing arc". (Emphasis added)

The "plastic"bases aren't mentioned so it seems the cardboard is actually used. Can someone confirm this for me?

Thanks in advance.

plastic base is part of the ship like any other ship

I think you're thinking of times when the closest line would fall between the plastic bases. And in that case yes, I think you'd measure to the cardboard.

Yeah, it's not only the base. The base just counts.

EXACTLY! Said better than I was thinking. And typing.

Thanks!

Sorry to necro this but range is determined differently for card abilities than for attacks for huge ships. When you check range for card abilities, from refers to the closest point from any section of the huge ship. When you measure for attacks "from" is the ships plastic base the attacking weapon is equipped and not the cardboard. This makes for a weird situation when you measure to attack with the Raider using a weapon mounted on the aft section. In detail here:

To is always the closest point on the target ship section within line of sight.
