CROC Dissasembly for modding

By FlashBackJack, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

Hi

Anyone cut off the top engine to make a broken horn ?

does it require a cut or can it be loosened and snapped off ?
I only have one model so far but when i get the second i'm converting it

thanks or any help out there

It 'plugs' into the body. I've seen a picture somewhere that suggests that the fin that holds the engine has a tab that is almost as long and wide as the fin itself (and about 5mm in length) and there's a corresponding slot in the hull.

As for dismantling the whole ship in general, I think that the LED engine modders are going to have one heck of a time pulling this one apart - I tried, I gave up.

I really have to wonder why this ship especially did not come with the nacelle separate and a non-nacelle plug in in the package.

Grab the nacelle or the plug, snap it in, and boom, choose your version. It could have gotten a lot of non-modders to buy 2 just on the premise of one of each version.

I plan to do this. But the nacelle sits quite hard, I tested a bit.

As for the main body: it seems to split along uppermost of the long lines from bow to stern. At least when I wriggle mine gently I can see through there. Have not yet started dissambling yet, want to play more with it first (difficult when it is lying in parts on the hobby table. And knowing myself, once dissembled, it is not getting assembled again within a few days (too much real life with family etc going on).

I used a blade to loosen the glue and then just pulled and rocked the engine out. I'm going to cut some little squares of plastic to cover the blank spots to make it look like the rest of the top. The engines pop off very easy. I had removed the miss one to paint on the first picture to paint.

My camera/lighting isn't the best. The green shows a little bit brighter than it is. All it needs now its the decals.

I love how that's coming out for you, unfortunately I hate yellow model paints so much I refuse to repaint this ship to match the Broken Horn. Though I did still, in my workshop thread, convert a second C-ROC into the Broken Horn. To keep my options open I engineered an outlet for the dorsal engine so I can run it as the Broken Horn (without dorsal engine) or as any of the other ships (with dorsal engine). My next step is to take a mold of the ship to fashion a rubber plug that I can plop-in when running the Broken Horn so as to avoid that ghastly hole in the top.

In order to remove the dorsal engine all I had to do with both my C-ROCs was grab the engine in one hand, the model in the other, and work it back and forth - sickly cracking sounds are good (that means the glue is breaking). They both just popped out after a few strongly suggestive wiggles.

Engineered outlet:

Left out the whole reason I was posting: to describe removing the dorsal engine in my experiences...

Loved what you did ... Where the upper engine was removed can easily become a landing dock for a scum fighter... Or house an array of missile launchers!

I just sawed my off with a fine tooth saw:
