I'm resigned to some Shadowlands taint and black scroll opening to happen, I'm just hoping they at least wait until the first dynasty pack.

If you mean killing you purveyors of incredibly boring narrative devices before you can blow up half of our clan, leaving us incapable of defending the Empire, then sure.

How about a war with the Unicorn over Meishodo instwad?

If Meishodo is in fact corrupting the spiritual landscape of Rokugan, then it is a worthy thing to go to war over.

True I suppose
We'll have to see how thorougly the Phoenix verify that claim, or whether this is the Rokugani equivalent of 'Saddam has WMD!!'.
No matter what, it's better than the "gaijin blood" AEG plotline they'll be lifting the artwork of the conflict from. Good lord that sucked.

I'm going swallow my pride in my knowledge L5R, and ask for elaboration.
I can't place that one.

It is the same thing as the Meishodo storyline, just an early explanation of it, which they thankfully changed. And for those who don't know, Not long before AEG sold the game, Phoenix in story started talking about how the Unicorn were cursed and spiritually corrupt and such, and Unicorn wasn't taking to kindly to it, leading to lots of fighting.

Considering the whole 'death priest' thing I'm not really surprised they went that direction. They were creepy. I ofren thought they tried too hard to make the Unicorn more 'exotic' than they needed to.
Now I know why I couldnt place it. When a new RPG book was released, was when I caught up on fictions.
Some the Colonies storylines blur in my head.
Huh, I may have stopped right after Aftermath. Whe the sale was announced I pretty much stopped with fictions.
Time for trip to Kaze-no-shiro.

Not.... quite. Specifically, the first reveal was flavor text on one Phoenix saying, "Gaijin blood leaves you vulnerable to spiritual corruption." This was subsequently tweaked to, "the Moto family still has to work off the kharmic burden of the Moto Curse."
Which was extra special fun, because Moto Naleesh was Shinjo reincarnated, so the Phoenix were saying that not only was the Unicorn's ruling family cursed, but that their capital-K Kami had chosen to be reborn into a cursed bloodline.
To say nothing of the early versions of the conflict involving the Phoenix attempting to essentially prove the setting's baked-in horrible racism to actually be correct. It fired up just about nobody on the Phoenix side, annoyed Unicorn fans, and to top it all off, it made less and less sense the more one picked at it.
Resetting to a "meishodo may be disrupting the spiritual harmony of Rokugan" gives both Clans something worth fighting over while not risking gutting their essential identity- *and* allows a way for the Phoenix to be either wrong or right without outright stating that non-Rokugani are objectively impure in some fashion.
[Extra Bonus Fun: This was meant to be something for the Phoenix to be right about (and fired up about), and they were slated to win the war with the Unicorn over it. The Phoenix delegation at Winter Court 4 (made up of, as you might surmise, Phoenix fans) was in more or less total revolt against the Clan party line.... things got... interesting.]
Sigh, you can always count on the Shiba to malign the forward thinking of the Isawa. There's a reason that Shiba was the kami who knelt, but those descendants of his that bear his name always seem to forget it.
Blood is life. Maho is life eternal!

I'd call for your execution, but, well...the ink in our Tattoos is its own form of blood magic, and Togashi (in Old5R, anyway) did tell Kachiko that blood magic wasn't always inherently Tainted.
That said, Asako Kinuye and her ilk are full of crap. They claim to serve the Phoenix with greater devotion than anyone, but it's really all about their own power.

You Dragon are so close to seeing the truth. Kinuye-sama, even though Asako, knew the veracity of how maho related to the principle of 忠義 chugi. Personal power is the first step in your duty to protect the clan. Do the Kakita not train for the one strike for the glory of the Crane? Do the Akodo not study to become the best tacticians for the betterment of their fellow soldiers? And you Togashi-san do you not seek to further your path of enlightenment to benefit others?
Why then is it when we who seek a better more powerful form of magic that we alone are maligned?

Ummmmm, see? This is why the Phoenix Clan would really benefit from some outside guidance from the Impetial court... or from the ? Clan. ![]()

You can always count on the Shiba to protect Isawa's followers and their descendants.
From themselves, when necessary.
Besides which, this isn't in-setting distaste. This is meta-narrative, OOC seething hatred for maho's role in the story.

On the upside, If things get out of control up in Phoenix lands, there is always the Witch-Hunters.![]()
(no one expects the Witch-Hunters! They're like the Spanish Inquisition that way)
