Reading a Character

By Duciris, in Star Wars: Destiny

I'm not familiar with the process by which we ready a previously activated character. This is called up by Master of the Council.

Its text reads: "Blue character only. SPECIAL - Exhaust this upgrade and spend 2 resources to ready a character." Does that mean:

1) If you choose to ready the character to which it is attached, that the utilized "Master of the Council" die may not be rolled into the pool?

1.A) If so, and you were to ready that character a second time this round, would it be readied then?

2) If you ready a character, what becomes of the dice already in your pool? Do you choose, for each die, to either keep it in your pool or return it to that character?

Another "teach a man to fish" moment presents itself.

For all future reference, MotC can only be used once per turn since you must exhaust it to use the ability. Upgrades do not ready when their attached characters do, though that does not preclude you from being able to roll the die back into your pool afterward.

Short version: the dice in the pool stay in the pool, when you activate the character again you get to reroll all of its dice which aren't in the pool, but you won't be able to use Master's text again this round because you can't pay the cost of exhausting it.

All that exhausting the card does is prevents a hyperloop.

Let's say it's attached to Windu.

I roll him out, he rolls Master of the Council special. I use it, readying him, but exhausting the upgrade. Now Windu, and any dice on his card (including Master of the Council) can be rolled into the pool again when you activate him. The upgrade is exhausted, so you can't use it again this time. This prevents you from readying him more than once per round.

Note any dice that you don't resolve before activating Windu the second time can only be used once that round due to timing.

edit: sorry, didn't see the other posts while typing. Looks like this was answered already.

Hello, guys!

Could you provide more precise information, because opinions of WonderWAAAGH and Kieransi don't 100% correspond to each other.

According to page 27 I can reroll character dices and character upgrade dices and resolve it second time in the following example :

1. I have Windu with ancient lightsaber and master of the council. I activate it for the first time, then use, for example, melee damage from ancient lightsaber and Windu die, after that I return these two dices to a character card.

2. Next action. I use special ability of MotC. Spend 2 resources. Exhaust this upgrade, ready Windu and return MotC die to card.

3. Next action. I roll all three dices. MotC die is out of play because its card is exhausted, but I can use again ancient lightsaber die and Windu die.

Am I right?

I believe you do indeed get to re-roll master of the council. Exhausting an upgrade doesn't preclude it from being rolled it, it just keeps you from using the card text again.

I will look at the rules reference again, but that would be news to me if you can't re-roll it into your pool.

Dpuck, if I understood you right, you suppose that I can use second time not only Windu and ancient lightsaber dices, but also MotC die, excluding its special ability?

Yes you exhaust motc only so you can’t just keep readying you character over and over again (it’s something the card designer put on the card to stop it from being broken). So after you reactivate the character the motc die basically has two blanks on it now.

Correct, but like Rafug9 said the specials are now worthless.

Thank you, Dpuck and Rafug! Now, I've got the idea of MotC application!
