Jon's Junk Droids

By luigix, in Imperial Assault Painting and Modification

Decided to make a junk droid and started with a Mouse Droid. It was... rough. (That's him with BT & 000).

Fortunately, a friend suggested I try to make a GNK (Gonk) droid. That turned out to be much more my speed & I ended up making a few of them (and 1 PLNK).

I love gonk droids. What was your process for making those?

They're all plasticard & plastic rods.

I start with a thicker piece of card, cut into roughly the size I want the gonk. Then, I glue some rods on the bottom for legs & cut little squares for feet.

For the body, I do the top & bottom separately using much thinner plasticard (the thinnest I can find- not sure the measurements). I cut a long strip to the height I want, then cut front & back pieces to match the middle pieces (with taper, if desired). I glue those on at the angle I want, then glue on sides & trim to fit. Repeat with the top (remembering to cut out the "face" on the front if you want), then glue on all the embellishments (mostly just scraps of the then card & slices of rod).

If I do any more, I'll take picture of the step by step.

I like these so much!

Gonks are so stupidly inefficient when it comes to getting around, it's great! Why not put wheels on them? Because Star Wars.

Haha, love the gonk droids!

That mouse droid must be more of the New York Sewer Rat variety... :P

I was thinking the exact same thing. Too funny. Gonk Droids look awesome.

Waiting for that step by step ;)

I need some gonk droids running around on my Legion games.

I totally forgot about these custom made Gonks! Way to resurrect the thread :) I think I'm going to try my hand at making a few.
