Friday night is Armada night.

By Darth Sanguis, in Star Wars: Armada

Even though the competitive meta feels like a fluster cluck of squadrons and flotillas, and the forums are always up in arms about some aspect of the game. Tonight is Armada night. There's more than 5 people showing up for the first time in months. All I've got to say is....

I'm really happy to get some casual games in... I may snag a full 3 matches tonight! :D (I think I'm going to run a Sato fleet!)

Anyone else planning to get some Armada action in this weekend?

I have a roller derby event on Saturday that's going to run from set up at about 9am, until tear down around 7pm with everything from skate mechanic, live commentator, and sponsor wrangler in between. If I'm fit to move for the rest of the weekend, I'll be shocked. Might try to squeeze in a game on Sunday if I can get a willing participant, though. My days off are rare.

Good thing you get games in at all while living a derby life! My team fell apart recently, and as much as I miss it, I've been doing SO MUCH MORE gaming.

Regardless, no Armada for me this weekend, unless I could convince my dad to magically love it. It's all good, Monday night is Armada night in these parts. We do a pretty solid job of keeping a hard split between the "competitive meta" and "casual play", so it hasn't gotten too frustrating yet.

Forgot a word... oops

Armada is Monday nights here and it is a very casual atmosphere.

I'll be getting my Runewars on tonight. Ankaur Maro can get a test run

Our gamestore isn't even open on Mondays! lol

Sunday fortnights are the Sentry Box's big ones... Although the 25th is Store Champs... Then it'll be back to fortnightly. Running the League.

At the moment, my wife's still in Fitness and Skate Training, but soon, I'll have a Derby Wife... Not a bad scene for it in Calgary/Edmonton. Although I really miss the huge events that were run in Melbourne (where I first got hooked as a spectator to the WFTDA aligned system)

I stepped away from it years ago, mainly due to work. Ironically, when I started coaching the team I was living the other side of the country (3 hours away... it's a small country), but when I moved to a new job that was 10 minutes from the training venue, I was working so much I couldn't keep my position going. My better half is still playing, although she's taken a step back from the travel team to a more organisational role now, also for work reasons. She's drafted me in to do a list of things as long as my arm for the day. Hard to say no to the woman you're living with, harder still when she can hip check you across the room...

Beware... you're about to starting hearing a phrase called "27-in-5" a lot. If you want to be a hero, maintain her bearings and keep her wheels clean. Derby skates pick up dirt in bearings and wheel treads like magnets, and they effect speed and traction hugely. The dreaded 27 can be rough on it's own, without losing inside tracking on an apex crossover. Clean wheels and well maintained bearings will literally buy you a whole lap.

I missed out on armada Thursday due to family things, but Sunday is father's day, so I'm hoping to at least get a little painting done (MC30 with underwater camo)
